Okay, so I like, totally spaced but. Word of mouth tells me that the Third Cohort is the biggest of the Legion at camp so far? Hey, cool.

Just wanted to check up on you guys, I mean, mostly since we're ... unusually small in numbers, even now and it's taken some people longer than others to get here. Yeah. How are you all doing? You're also required to respond even if I talk to you every day - hint hint.

If you need me - or if anyone else, newbies or not, has any questions for whatever reason (not that I'm the leading Roman expert or anything) - I'll be trying my hand at arts and crafts and we may or may not get Third Cohort buttons.

[ She waggles her fingers playfully before swiping away the message. ]

[Naomi blinks. Oh wow, what kind of eyeshadow is that? Naomi kind of wants some, not that she knows much about makeup. In all honesty the thirteen year old would probably end up smearing it on her cheeks like a foot ball player.]

I can help! 'm normally in the arts 'nd crafts cabin.

You know how to use these button maker doodads? 'Cause I never learned this kinda stuff in school. Or in New Rome.

[ She lowers her voice conspiratorially. ] We're not the button making type of people, us Romans.

Yeah! I've made a couple buttons before.

[At the conspiratorially whisper she giggles.]

It's okay, we Greeks have your backs for buttons!

Thank gods. The armor could use a little more swag, you know what I mean?

[ Heather's busy doodling designs for Third Cohort badges and she even refrains from using glitter and the color pink for everyone's sake. ]

[She remembers the word swag, but Jehan had told her never to use it again.]

I'll meet you at the arts 'nd craft cabin, that okay?

[ Swag is way better than swaggy. Never say swaggy. That is Heather's sage advice for her. ]

I'll be here! [ She sings, waving her off. ]

[She gives a small wave before dismissing the rainbow.

A few minutes later Naomi is peeking her head into the arts and craft cabin, her lilac jacket zipped up all the way.]

*On the one hand, Callie wanted zero of Heather's mothering right now. She figured the daughter of Venus will have things to say given Callie's little public display of aggression. ...On the other hand, Callie also knows that hiding from Heather won't actually work so she might as well get this over with.*

*Callie walks into the crafts pavilion and sits down on a table with her book. Just because Callie is getting this over with doesn't mean she'll start the conversation.*

[ Heather holds up two designs for her buttons, one with Romanesque lettering and one that looks more like street graffiti. She isn't the type to launch into conversations like these anyway, and she does want to know how she feels about the designs for this is serious business. ]

...While the expression Reyna would have about the street tag button would be worth it, I think we should stick closer to our roots.

*What? Too many members of the legion going native? Callie doesn't think that at all.*

Spoilsport. [ Heather playfully sticks her tongue out as she reaches for the scissors to start cutting the circles out of the glossy bronze paper. ]

I'm gonna make a tag button for myself anyway since I like these blow paintbrushes. Besides, these are just for us, not, like, the whole Legion, gods.

Even if it's just for us, we're still soldiers of the Legion. We should look, you know... uniform, and Roman.

*She eyes Heather as she works and puts her book to the side.*

...You miss the barracks, right?

[ Heather's busied herself by pressing the cap of the button into the machine, then the circle she's just cut - before she can make the first button, she pauses. ]

I dunno. Maybe. I'm not really close to anyone in my cabin. And, like, they're all my half-siblings, but there's been no real 'bonding.'

[She'll get a response to her IM in the form of another rainbow soon after she swipes it away. Scott's getting the hang of this 'sending an IM to one person' thing. He still kind of misses the eagles, though.]

You guys are lucky. I think it's only me and Derek around from the Fourth for now.

[Then, quietly - even though he specifically sent it to Heather, because Derek's really, really good at that whole 'popping up out of nowhere' thing. He thinks it might be part of the wolf, but.]

I don't think he'd be big on Fourth Cohort buttons.

Until then -- [ She holds up the gilded paper and scissors, waggling her eyebrows. ] I can make a button for you -- and for Derek.

[He stops himself mid-sentence, shaking his head.]

I really don't think that's a good idea.

Why not? You don't have to give it to him. I could give it to him.

Do you not want me to make one for you? Better decide fast while my creative mood sticks.

No, it's not- I just don't think he'd recieve it well. I don't think he'd even know what to do wih one.

[He laughs a little.]

But yeah, I want one.

Cool. You could use some swag.

[ She picks up a permanent marker and starts to make a separate badge for Scott. ]

You wanna come join me here? Only if you're not doing anything.

I get the hint, Heather. [That's said with a smile though. They'd been here before most of the others, so naturally they'd stuck together. Not like they wouldn't have anyway. Best completely mismatched pair ever.]

Things are pretty good. I think I'm gonna start regular sparring rounds, are you in?

[ There's a face she had been wanting to see! ] Good, 'cause I could have been more obvious if you didn't get it.

As for sparring, I'm totally down! I could use practice in other weapons, actually.

Hey, you should know better than that. I'm not John, you know. [His smile has a slight smirk with that. His brother's the one that pulls him out into teasing more than anyone.]

Yeah, me too - I know we're supposed to be all swords almost all the time [and that really is his best weapon, by far], but with everything that's happened, I don't think we can be too prepared.

True.

[ Heather sniggers, resting her chin over her fisted hands. ]

I want to try fighting with a dagger. And even a knife, just to see if I can be fast enough.

They're pretty much the same thing, you know. One's just a little smaller than the other, but the moves are mostly alike. [He's long since gotten used to Heather's Gladiator Barbie routine, but it's nice to know she's not giving it up in these uncertain times.]

I should really work on my archery, I still pretty much suck at that. Not that we use it a lot, but they have that whole target range here and it'd be a shame to waste it.

[ Heather is Gladiator Barbie to the core, though she's been neglecting extra training recently in favor of running and climbing in camp. She's an expert in her spear, so it's time she gets back to her practice. ]

You're not bad at archery. Better than me, definitely. [ She squints an eye, imagining herself taking aim. ] I'll go at it with you if you help me out, too!
