Okay, so I like, totally spaced but. Word of mouth tells me that the Third Cohort is the biggest of the Legion at camp so far? Hey, cool.

Just wanted to check up on you guys, I mean, mostly since we're ... unusually small in numbers, even now and it's taken some people longer than others to get here. Yeah. How are you all doing? You're also required to respond even if I talk to you every day - hint hint.

If you need me - or if anyone else, newbies or not, has any questions for whatever reason (not that I'm the leading Roman expert or anything) - I'll be trying my hand at arts and crafts and we may or may not get Third Cohort buttons.

[ She waggles her fingers playfully before swiping away the message. ]

[ There's a face she had been wanting to see! ] Good, 'cause I could have been more obvious if you didn't get it.

As for sparring, I'm totally down! I could use practice in other weapons, actually.

Hey, you should know better than that. I'm not John, you know. [His smile has a slight smirk with that. His brother's the one that pulls him out into teasing more than anyone.]

Yeah, me too - I know we're supposed to be all swords almost all the time [and that really is his best weapon, by far], but with everything that's happened, I don't think we can be too prepared.

[excusing]

True.

[ Heather sniggers, resting her chin over her fisted hands. ]

I want to try fighting with a dagger. And even a knife, just to see if I can be fast enough.

They're pretty much the same thing, you know. One's just a little smaller than the other, but the moves are mostly alike. [He's long since gotten used to Heather's Gladiator Barbie routine, but it's nice to know she's not giving it up in these uncertain times.]

I should really work on my archery, I still pretty much suck at that. Not that we use it a lot, but they have that whole target range here and it'd be a shame to waste it.

[excusing]

[ Heather is Gladiator Barbie to the core, though she's been neglecting extra training recently in favor of running and climbing in camp. She's an expert in her spear, so it's time she gets back to her practice. ]

You're not bad at archery. Better than me, definitely. [ She squints an eye, imagining herself taking aim. ] I'll go at it with you if you help me out, too!

[At least she's keeping in shape. Ven's seen some Romans not make much of an effort, which is really going to put them in bad credit with the praetors.]

Maybe, but I'm not good at it either. And the barriers here mean it'd be a lot easier to shoot anything that shows up instead of waiting for a face-to-face confrontation. But we can work on it together, that sounds cool.

[excusing]

Teamwork, hey. I need a promotion, doing all this extra work.

[ She wrinkles her nose, laughing. Definitely not today. ]

You wanna go shoot some arrows first?

[And he flat-out grins at that.]

What extra work? We both know we're doing less here than we would at Camp Jupiter. Why do you think I'm out at the training fields so much?

[He's gotta keep in top fighting form, after all. Very important for Jupiter kids.]

Sure - I'll meet you there, they keep all the equipment next to the range.

[excusing]

Extra work in this camp, I mean. duh.

[ Heather has hardly started her crafting so she pushes that to the side because, hell yeah she wants to get to training with Ven. There's a little twinkle in her eyes that says it all. ]

I'll be there soon!

Me, too.

[And indeed he is - when she shows up, he's already rummaging in the shed where the Greeks keep all their archery equipment, looking for a bow that's a good balance for him and that doesn't have a draw that'll kill his triceps.]

[ Here she is, bounding forth in a burst of energy because that's how Heather likes to show up anywhere. ]

Hey, so I think there's a bow here that won't completely kill my arms. I just need to remember which one I used. [ Of course she didn't mark it or write down which one she picked, because she likes to go by feeling and physical memory. ]

[Indeed it is. Ven's completely used to it by now. He shakes his head at the one he just picked up, knowing right away that it's too light for him, and hands it to her so she can try it for herself.]

I never really know if the one I'm using is right for me or if I'm just used to one that's not right. I guess we really don't focus on much besides ground fighting, maybe to our detriment.

I know, I don't wanna feel more out of my element than I do already! Though this could be a good launching point to maybe to a little bit of cross-pantheon training? Pick up a few things here and there and stuff?

[ She happily takes the bow from him, holding it in her open palms. ] This might be the one I used. [ Maybe she can pull a little from what little Mars she has in her blood and at least be in tune with some weaponry? After slinging her weapon over one shoulder, Heather picks up a slightly heavier bow, weighing that carefully. ] For you?

Definitely. I mean, it seems to still depend a lot on your natural ability - I've definitely seen a lot of Greeks who're worse with weapons than most of us, but they're mostly the children of gods who aren't warlike. But the Ma- Ares kids, that Poseidon guy - I don't know if I'd want to face them alone.

[And he's one of the best in the legion. Ven tries to bend the bow she hands him, liking the give of the wood and the tension in it, and grabs a coiled string to loop onto the notches.] I think I can work with this. Ready to get started?

[excusing]

[ Heather plucks her own string like she's slapping the bass and grins at the little twang it gives. ]

There are still, uh, kinda scarier things than just brute force. [ That's her weakness, the logic and planning. She's not brash but she charges into physical things head on. But her statement covers all types of powers. ]

There are, but if you don't have power backing you in large battles, you're not going to win. [He's not the type to charge in without any idea of what's going on, not unless there's absolutely no other options, but he can pack quite a punch during a fight. Even though most people wouldn't think it to look at him.]

[He grabs a quiver and steps over to the targets proper, mentally reviewing the correct forms for archery.] I'm going to miss all of these. It's been way too long since I practiced.
