[Today, a single rose has been placed at the feet of the statue of Aphrodite in accordance with the laws for celebrating Aphrodisia.

When you ate your breakfast this morning, you might have noticed it was delicious, even better than usual. Maybe the nymphs and harpies took extra care, or maybe there was a little Love Potion No. 9 in it.

It's very peaceful here, isn't it? I prefer it to the archery range or even the lake.

[ She eyes him for a moment - really eyes him - and smiles even wider.

What was the name of that guy she liked? She ... can't ... remember. Not at this moment. ]

I've never seen you here before! Are you new?

Yeah, it's nice. There's, like, less ... people.

( Which is why he often finds himself retreating here when he's bored of training or just acting ridiculous in general. The way she's looking at him is extremely unfamiliar and it actually - wow - brings a very genuine sort of smile out of him. He could get used to this.

... in retrospect, once this all blows over, he'll be glad for the fact that his mind's a thousand different places at once right now, and glad for the fact that he's terrible with names. Not that he needs any help from any love goddesses to help him notice a pretty girl. )

Oh! Yeah! I - uh, I'm from California. It's so... east coast-y here.

Well, it is the east coast. [ She laughs. Oh, he is funny, isn't he? Very charming in a rough and tumble sort of way. It's very refreshing to her, when normally she fancies the quiet, incredibly intelligent and book-smart types. Most of them too engrossed in their studies to notice her affections, but anyway. ]

Do you like it here? In general?

( True. It is the east coast. Johnny decides that he may be better off standing instead of having her talking down at him, so he hoists himself up, brushing grass off of his jeans.

He has to think about her question for a moment, though. Despite all of his early protestations and complaining, he's actually kind of sort of ... getting used to it now? Huh. )

Yeah, it's not so bad. I dunno. It was weird at first, but I think I like it here now. Everyone I've met seems nice enough, anyways.

( Including a certain daughter of Demeter, eyyy. )

Most people here are quite nice, I assure you! There are some tough-skinned campers but no one has ever truly been mean to me.

[ Well, there's a bit of her naive optimism when it comes to people. ]

Oh, I remember my first summer here. I was terrified.

Wait -- really?

( Terrified? That seems like a strong word. Not that Johnny, like ... actually knows her or her personality or anything... He slips his hands into his pockets, brow furrowed. )

I'm from Germany, I lived there all my life until I came here. My English was not as good, at first.

[ She shrugs, somewhat nonchalantly because that was all behind her. She had faced bigger problems since then and faced them all bravely and with varying degrees of success. ]

Along with being a demigod, I also had to grow accustomed to a new country. But - oh, I don't want to talk about myself very much. I would like to know more about you.

Oh -- yeah. Jeez. Makes sense, then.

( Right. She does have an accent, not that it's anything drastic or over the top. Johnny's found switching coasts to be nuts on top of the whole demigod deal, so he can't even fathom moving to a completely different country. Jeez, indeed. )

Me? Uh, well. Like I said, I'm from California, where I... did a lot of boring dude stuff like play video games and jam, like, on the guitar with my friends and hang out and all that. I dunno. It all seems lame as hell compared to the stuff everyone does here. ( He shrugs. )
