[ A very sullen and grumpy looking boy with a bandaged and freshly-swollen face is coming back into camp. Didn't notice Grantaire was gone? That's okay, it was only for a little over a day. For anyone failing to notice his bruised eyes or bandaged nose, he's also carrying a folded piece of red, white, and blue fabric.

Grantaire finally, after a few weeks, went to see a damn doctor. (No, he's not letting an Apollo kid look at it, thank you-- it's thanks to one of those stupid sun kids he got his nose busted in the first place.) It's obviously not been a pleasant trip outside the barriers, given that his nose had to be re-broken and aligned after it didn't heal properly from last month. He just wants to go back to his cabin and sulk properly. ]

Well this time a rather bushy-faced Quebecois doctor did this to me to fix what was healing backward.

[She takes a moment to actually look at his nose, though she can't see much behind the bandage.]

[ Pulling a Canadian nickel out of his pocket. ] I knew you guys liked beavers, but... dam.

[She looks delighted, making a happy little squeal as she grabs the nickel from him.]

You just can't appreciate culture. The beaver's our national animal.

[She gently pinches his cheek for good measure.]

[ Making a face at her pinching and brushing her hand away, probably lingering over it a bit too long. ]

[ Rolling his eyes and finding himself hooking his back around hers absentmindedly, feeling something turn over around his stomach. ]

Half of the English language is about actual creativity...a pun on beaver puns doesn't count though. Not like the commoottee.

[She swings their fingers back and forth as she fake chides him, clearly happy with the circumstances.]

[She smiles, easily leaning in with the encouragement.]

That's cheating, you're stronger in French than I am. How am I supposed to judge you now?

[She crinkles her decidedly unbroken Disney princess nose just to make a point.]

It was rather a running bet, really, who would punch me in the face first. For a while there I was sure it would be Eponine. Knew that you were a lost cause. Don't think I've ever met someone so decidedly forgiving.

[ Leaning in and grinning. Ignoring the fact that this distance actually makes him wonder if he's going too far. ]

[She laughs at first, paying no attention to the closed distance until it becomes too obvious; her face falls as she catches on to the lack of space.]

...I-I don't know.

Well if you don't know then I definitely don't have a clue. But--

[ He kisses her, quickly, the space so minimal it feels like nothing-- but it's not nothing. It's everything. And it's-- She didn't ask him to do that. Fuck. Fuck.

The last curse is said aloud as he steps back several steps and his eyes go so wide it makes his nose ache. ]
