Petal 09 -- IM/Action

[Jehan is out in his garden today, weeding and planting and basically being a son of Demeter. Not his poisons today, thankfully, but his flowers. Daisies, roses, tulips--all the flowers.]

I'll be making flower crowns for May Day next week, if people are interested! I know it's not really a holiday but after this odd winter, I feel it would be appropriate to celebrate the spring in some way.

[He smiles and goes to cut the rainbow before making a soft "oh" sound and turning back to it, blushing]

Oh, and...Nico, I. I was wondering if you would like to go with me on a trip of sorts. To Venice! Marianne has gone to visit her girlfriend and she said that if I wanted to stop by now that I can she would treat me and a friend to dinner. So...yes. Do you want to go to Venice?

[Soon enough, Mary is in the garden, taking a seat next to Jehan and picking up flowers to start assisting in making wreaths with.]

I thought perhaps there might be some phrases you could surprise him with if you wanted. Oh, and - I realize you mentioned Venice specifically, but if you both decide you want to see a little more of the country, a friend of mine has family with a villa in Florence and I'm sure I could make an arrangement for you, lodgings-wise.

Oh, I'll talk to him about that. It'd be lovely to see more of Italy. Thank you, Mary.

It's no trouble at all. You've been lovely to me while I've been staying in Demeter Cabin so it's surely the least I can do. Have you been to Italy before?

[She contemplates the wreath she's working on for a moment.] Would boys wear wreaths, do you think? I'm definitely going to make one for Allison.

Just the mountains, once. Mama loves them. That was it, though, and I was a lot younger.

[He grins]

It can't hurt to make one for them! If nothing else it'll be decoration for their cabins.

Quite true! I half expect Artemis and Eiji to come up with some crazy use for them, though. They're inventive in that way.

[Cheerfully,] Oh, I love the Alps! Do you ski? Of course, it'll be warmer where you're going...and oh goodness, the food. My belly's rounding out just thinking about it. Do you have any particular plans?

Artemis and Eiji are....the Irish one and the Japanese one?

[He grins]

I don't ski, but I love the snow. I don't know of any places to eat in Venice--I think Marianne is going to be planning that, actually. She loves food almost as much as she loves traveling. If it's pizza, however, I will be shocked. What would you suggest?

Indeed. Also Loki and Thor, respectively. [Mary is fond of them both, but they are rascals.]

Goodness, trying to suggest food in Italy is impossible. Just eat whatever's put in front of you and it's likely to be delicious. Polenta's quite popular and Venezzia does have delicious bakeries. Don't leave Italy without having a proper gelato or I shan't forgive you. [This is said teasingly, of course.]

[Jehan laughs, nodding eagerly]

I may be taking a food tour as well as a ghost tour--Nico said once that he'd take me on one if we went to Venice and, well. We're going to Venice. I am going to be both fat and properly haunted when I return, I just know it!

[Mary's tone is ever so delicate as she keeps her eyes on her flower wreath and suppresses a giggle.] Well, as to fat - I have it on very good authority that Italian men like a little...what do the Americans say? 'Junk in the trunk'.

[She cannot keep a straight face, and bursts into giggles.]

[Jehan stares, trying to remember what that means, before cracking up and turning a furious red]

Mary! Mes Dieux I cannot believe you said that!

[Mary's a little pink herself, lifting her hands to touch her own cheeks.] Well, it's true!

Just because I went to Catholic school doesn't mean I'm unaware of the world.

[She just can't keep a straight face.]

No, but still! That's terrible. You're terrible.

[Cracking up still yep]

[With cheerful resolution,]

I prefer to think of myself as enabling.

Now! Where there any particular Italian phrases you want to learn without Nico knowing so you might surprise him? Like...baciami, perhaps.

What does that mean?

[She titters, cheeks turning pink again as she presses her fingers to her mouth.]

It means 'kiss me'.

--oh.

[He blushes]

Um, no, I don't think I'll need that one...

Are you sure? Or how about 'Si guarda meraviglioso'?

Why don't you tell me the sort of phrases you might like to learn?

What does that one mean?

[She beams.] You look wonderful.

But I'll bite, what would you like to learn?

Well, that's a good start but...

[He pauses, thinking]

Oh, I don't know. Everything I can think of might embarrass him!

Or intrigue him!

[What was it she said about being enabling...?]

Surely there's something you'd like to surprise him with.

Nothing I can really think of that won't make him panic! He's skittish, like a horse a little. He freaks out very easily.

All skittish horses really need are a firm hand and a gentle tone. And for you to speak their language.

[Mary hmmms, attempting to set her mind to the quandry.] He might be different in Italy. It's where he's from, after all. You should encourage him to show you places that he remembers fondly, if he has any.

Oh, that's a good idea! He's bound to have a few places, even if it's just from his mother's stories!

[Mary is pleased she could help.]

How long will you be gone? It's a shame we can't get proper mail here, because I love postcards.
