ANNOUNCEMENT & IM

[ You'll find yourself looking at a grave centaur first thing this morning, just before the Romans start their training. ] Campers, I've an important announcement to make. Now, you know very well that we have protective borders around Camp Half-Blood. After last summer's incident, we've taken great care to ensure that we have several lines of defense with both force and Mist.

Followers of Lycaon - wolves - have been spotted just outside of camp. It is believed that they continue to align themselves with Gaea.

There have been no attacks, but I trust that all of you will keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of trouble. No campers will be leaving. [ Have a pointed look for some of you. ] However, we must keep our wits about us. Prepare accordingly. The Athena cabin has necessary information on the followers should you choose to educate yourselves on the matter. I hope you will.

[ The feed ends. ]

( mod note | Open to discussion. Plan your patrol groups, change up your training tactics. Welcome to the first plot of 2014! )

That's 'cause you haven't met Tantalus yet. [His voice is incredibly dry, and he doesn't go into any detail yet. If she asks, he'll clarify, but it's pretty obvious he hates that guy.] I haven't run into Lycaon myself, but he's pretty terrible anyway. Considering he started something that even regular mortals know about today, that's gotta be a special brand of suck. Hopefully Lupa can help do something about this, she's gotta be annoyed at someone giving wolves a bad name.

From the stories I've heard, I don't think I'd care to meet him. [She shakes her head and sighs.] They have a similar story, though. Lycaon wanted proof that he was hosting Jupiter, and proof that he was omniscient. So, he killed one of his sons and tried feeding him to the Lord of the Skies. Understandably, Jupiter was furious, and turned the former King of Arcadia into a wolf. His other fifty sons, though...they were killed, too.

[Aqua pauses a moment to whisper something soothing in the pegasus' ear.]

Lupa will do the best she can, but whether we are victorious or become prey for those other wolves will be by our own doing. She'll never interfere with that. It's not her way.

Lupa seems pretty big on independence and making sure you can stand up for yourself, considering she makes you guys take a test just to get to your camp. [Percy's less freaked about that idea than a lot of the other Greek kids are, but his own arrival at Camp Half-Blood hadn't exactly been quiet.] As long as she does what she can, it'll at least be some help.

Just like Romulus and Remus did, but it also weeds out those who...likely wouldn't survive being in the Legion if they couldn't make it. As far as Lupa is concerned, Rome needs to have strong people or people who can contribute much to the Legion as a whole.

[It's kinder than saying it weeds out the weak.]

[Yeah, but it's going to prompt him to ask a question that's been bothering him for awhile, since he first heard about this little "test" thing.]

So what happens if someone... fails this test? I'm guessing she doesn't push more on someone than they should be expected to take, but if they don't pass...

[Does she kill demigods?]
rainfelled: (This doesn't look very nice)

She doesn't kill them, and neither do her wolves.

[Aqua looks over at Percy with seriousness.]

Failing the test means you get torn apart by her wolves, yes. Weakness isn't tolerated in a wolf pack, and Lupa won't make an exception for us. She teaches us her ways and our heritage, then she sets the test. I think it might be tailored to each person, but I don't know that for certain. Even normal interactions with her requires us to never show weakness to her.
