[ You'll find yourself looking at a grave centaur first thing this morning, just before the Romans start their training. ] Campers, I've an important announcement to make. Now, you know very well that we have protective borders around Camp Half-Blood. After last summer's incident, we've taken great care to ensure that we have several lines of defense with both force and Mist.

Followers of Lycaon - wolves - have been spotted just outside of camp. It is believed that they continue to align themselves with Gaea.

There have been no attacks, but I trust that all of you will keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of trouble. No campers will be leaving. [ Have a pointed look for some of you. ] However, we must keep our wits about us. Prepare accordingly. The Athena cabin has necessary information on the followers should you choose to educate yourselves on the matter. I hope you will.

[She takes the hand, giving him a little smile, because really, she's fine. Just homesick, but there's nothing she can do about that.]

's everything okay? 'Cause normally people go to get air because something's bothering them.

[ He knows the feeling, at least, so he can offer that empathy there. Giving a slight squeeze, he considers his answer for a moment. Full truth, or partial truth? ]

Just worried about things that're happening now. Happy new year. [ That comes out a little dryly. ]

What's happening?

[She pauses, tilting her head to the side.

Oh!]

You mean the lyches?

[ He snorts, bringing his hand up to give a little tug on her hair between thumb and forefinger. ]

His name is Lycaon, chipmunk. And werewolves are called lycans sometimes because of him.

's what I said.

[Comes the whine as he tugs her hair. A pout follows as she crosses her arms over her chest.]

So he's like, a big scary werewolf?

Sure it is.

[ Shifting where he's standing, he crosses his arms to mimic her stance with clear amusement on his face. It's better than the frustration that was there before. ]

He's the big scary werewolf.

[Naomi hums, thoughtful before she looks up at Derek.]

Sooooo is he like, the daddy of werewolves?

You could put it like that. He's supposedly Greek, and his story goes that he tried to test Zeus-- first by trying to feed human flesh to him, then by sending assassins after him to see if he was truly immortal. When Zeus found out, he cursed him.

[ Derek isn't surprised that she doesn't know who he is-- he just wishes Naomi never had a reason to. ]

He's not very nice sounding.

[Stating the obvious for ever.

Naomi frowns, expression becoming serious. It's probably a rare sight. She reaches up to rub her eyes, banishing the lingering tears. Right. She can be homesick later.]

'nd he wants to help Gaea? Wh-What're we gonna do?

Not really, considering his son was part of that human feast.

[ There's something quietly proud in his expression as he watches her compose herself, and Derek tries to look at the bright side of things. At least there are people here to fight together, in the event that Lycaon does make a move. ]

He wants to help Gaea. [ For so many reasons. ] We plan as much as we can as quick as we can. The full moon is the fifteenth, and there are only so many things that can hurt a werewolf.

[The serious look becomes a look of disgust when he tells her about the human feast. Naomi sticks her tongue out, making a quiet 'yuck'. But then she's back to being serious, nodding along with his words.]

Sooo... Would they attack us on the full moon..?

[A chilling realization hits her.]

Th-That's this week...

[ A humorless snort leaves him at the look on her face, but he's somber as he mulls over it. ]

I don't know how he thinks. If the wolves that've been spotted so far aren't a scouting party, I'll be shocked, but they'd be strongest on the full moon.

[ He's wary of whatever Lycaon might have planned, to be honest. ]

[Almost immediately Naomi's hands have risen to fiddle with her brothers necklace. She takes a shaky breath, determined to stay calm.]

But ho-how are we gonna be ready? I mean I don't know anything about werewolves 'cept their scary! How can we fight them? Wh-What if-

[Her mind flashes back to the Red Room, to that scary man named Markel and Naomi ends up dropping down into a squat, hugging her knees. She wants to be brave, she wants to be strong, really.

But she's scared.]

[ As Naomi drops down to a squat, Derek comes closer, moves to stand in front of her. He eases down into a crouch, arms rested on his knees, and angles his head in towards her to catch her eye. There's nothing he can really do except try to prepare her for this, and part of him wonders if maybe he should tell her what he is.

But then he decides not to. ]

Silver is the only metal that a werewolf can't heal from-- they'll even heal from or outright resist Celestial Bronze and Imperial gold. Wolfsbane is poisonous, and requires a precisely put together antidote to counteract it. Mistletoe is also pretty effective, but otherwise there's a slight resistance to other poisons.

[She wishes there was something he could say that would prepare her for all of this, but deep down she knows there isn't.

Brave, brave. She has to be brave. Naomi rubs the heel of her hand to her eye as she listens to him.]

Jehan's got wolfsbane, I think and whoever found all that mistletoe during December could probably get more...

[ Reaching out, he curls his fingers against her shoulders, rubbing at them a little as he does. She's scared, but she's still willing to fight. She's more brave than anyone else could ever ask her to be. ]

Don't let them near you. They're pretty big, but they're also faster than you'd think. If you can use your staff to keep them away from you while doing damage, then please-- but try not to fight them alone.

[If you asked her, that's still not brave enough.

His hands on her shoulders is what makes her look up. She nods, wipes her eyes on her arm and nods again.]

Don't worry I, um, 'm not gonna go looking for them. I'll stay with Jehan or someone! 'nd my bracelet will tell me if 'm in any danger! [She holds up her wrist to show said bracelet.]

[ He offers her a small smile when she looks up again, concern still sitting at the corners of it but something a little proud there, too. ]

Good. Safety in numbers, and your siblings are the best numbers to be with. [ The Demeter cabin is a force to be reckoned with, too. You don't ever doubt the quiet, friendly bunch. ]
