ANNOUNCEMENT & IM

[ You'll find yourself looking at a grave centaur first thing this morning, just before the Romans start their training. ] Campers, I've an important announcement to make. Now, you know very well that we have protective borders around Camp Half-Blood. After last summer's incident, we've taken great care to ensure that we have several lines of defense with both force and Mist.

Followers of Lycaon - wolves - have been spotted just outside of camp. It is believed that they continue to align themselves with Gaea.

There have been no attacks, but I trust that all of you will keep your eyes and ears open for any signs of trouble. No campers will be leaving. [ Have a pointed look for some of you. ] However, we must keep our wits about us. Prepare accordingly. The Athena cabin has necessary information on the followers should you choose to educate yourselves on the matter. I hope you will.

[ The feed ends. ]

( mod note | Open to discussion. Plan your patrol groups, change up your training tactics. Welcome to the first plot of 2014! )

*Callie is taking this turn of events real well. She's only broken three...*

*Crack.*

*-Four dummies. She's also wearing her street armor, something she hasn't done since she arrived, a scale vest and bracers she usually wears under a shirt or hoodie when she's out and about. Her door is outside of the barrier, it has to be. And it isn't contained in a way she can access it without a short sprint in enemy territory.*

[And Ven had immediately started seeking out Callie when that announcement was made. He knows about her door and can easily put two and two together to realize she's not going to be happy about the restriction to the campgrounds, so he's going to try and make sure she doesn't do anything stupid. Try. At least she's in the practice arena, not anywhere else.]

Looks like you heard, then.

Yes, and I decided not to try to make a break for it. Surprised?

*Callie did have a new silver knife on her belt, a loaner until she found out how they planned to arm a camp with a rarer weapon than divine gold and bronze. She doubted Nico could give them all Iron blades, and if he could... she didn't want to touch that stuff, it felt cruel just to be near to it. Let alone touch it.*

...I don't like being trapped. *And, she didn't say, she didn't want to see that happen again.*

A little, yeah. [He's not going to beat around the bush with Callie - she doesn't appreciate hedging, and would probably get offended if he tried to be too diplomatic. So while he takes the last few steps to get closeish to her, close enough to talk but not close enough to be decapitated, he folds his arms across his chest and tries to figure out how to say... well, anything really.]

No one likes being trapped. [Although yes, she likes it less than anyone he knows.] But right now there's not that many out there, so if we can take them out quickly Lycaon might take the hint and back off. And even if he doesn't, we've taken out a chunk of his forces so he can't attack us with them again. The odds aren't anywhere near as bad as they were at Camp Jupiter.

Don't be. If the Praetors die Octavian will be in charge. He'll blame the Graecus for it and march what's left of our legions on this camp.

*She could understand the idea she'd run, Callie was not one known for sentiment. But at the same time, she's loyal, the only reason she would run is if it would help. Like if she could lead the wolves away. Which she couldn't do even if she got to her doorway in time.*

At least we're somewhat prepared for it, we're lucky he's at the gates and not hunting down any halfbloods that leave on a quest. Most Quests don't carry silver and wolfsbane unless they think it'll be needed. If that happened we'd be in real trouble.

It feels like quicksand right now. Being here.

If he tried that, I think our parents would do something about it. We're doing pretty well here [he'll refrain from mentioning her own gripes with certain people] and we're as safe as demigods can ever be. Especially with Camp Jupiter gone - for now - they won't want this stronghold to be collapsed by infighting.

[He doesn't like Octavian, one of the few people on that list. Jason and Reyna are infinitely better than that one, so he's going to hold onto that hope.]

Why? Does it feel like our safety's slipping through your fingers or something like that?

He's still a child of Rome. He may be a self-important, egomaniac, Napoleon, whose gifts are closer aligned to his own interests than that of Rome. But he is a part of the senate, and our Gods do favor him for some reason.

*She could wander through the old world and back again, and still never find out why. But he was a part of Rome, just like them. And sometimes, annoyingly, he was right.*

Reminds me too much of how I felt before I found the Legion. A choice without an answer, you know?
salvagedlight: (i've got a better idea)

[personal profile] salvagedlight 2014-01-24 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
Our gods don't talk to us all that much, not like they do on the Greek side. [Ven's never been sure of why that is, other than the obvious fact that Romans are supposed to be independent and live - or die - on their own wills. But even with that, surely they'd have more direction for their chosen people that still remained in the world, right?] He's got power, but who knows how much of that is just him and what he can promise people and the gods themselves. I don't know, I've never seen a god - before I came here - but I'm pretty sure that my father at least wouldn't like Octavian trying to pull the rug out from under Jason.

[Because that would be an implicit threat to Jupiter's power. And while Jupiter may like ambition, he's certainly not willing to forgo his place as the king of the gods.]

Kind of - I never really had choices. [Not until he ran away, at least, then he went from "no choices" to "only choices." Go to this doctor, try this pill, be stared at by classmates - all of that was taken out of his hands. And then after he ran away, it was all focused on simply surviving, until Lupa found him and took him to the Legion.] But we have them now, and we have a place of safety, so we're not helpless. We can take care of these guys and send them running. And when the next batch comes we can do it again, and again, as many times as we have to.

I'm sure Jupiter is used to the thought the other Gods would take his seat if he let them. Octavian is a test like any other, Jason seems to handle it well though. At least, he used to...

*Right, moving on.*

You did, they just sucked so much only a child of Janus would be able to see them. *Daddy's little gift.* We're relying on a barrier from a tree that was at one point a demigod? That it? Anyway, right now, what I would like, is an old fashion wall. Or... something easier to check for intruders.

I would even settle for Terminus and his yelling at me over my abilities.
salvagedlight: (huh who what)

[personal profile] salvagedlight 2014-01-24 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
Jason will always be able to handle him. [His voice is a bit flatter than normal, because - well, it's Jason. Jason is his brother and one of his best friends, and they know each other better than just about anyone. There's things he disagrees with Callie on, but on this he will not waver - even when he doubts himself, Jason will always be capable.]

The barrier seems to work so far - I wish I could meet Thalia, though. [A sister he doesn't know, and from the little he's heard she sounds strong, but he admits that actually knowing her would make him feel better about it.] The only time it's had problems before this was when it got poisoned a few years ago. And sure, maybe that could happen again, but that's why they have the Fleece, right? Look, I'm not saying we shouldn't be prepared for things to go wrong or find holes in our defenses and work to fix them, but we shouldn't just assume that's going to happen either. We had the same kind of barrier around Camp Jupiter and it took an army with a lot of things that had godlike powers to break it; a bunch of wolves doesn't even come close to that.

[Although yeah, he kind of misses Terminus, too. The statue could be more ADHD than any demigod, but he was kind of endearing in his exasperated antics.] Why'd he yell at you? Because you ignored his barriers?
notworthless: (You don't get it?)

[personal profile] notworthless 2014-01-24 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
Octavian's power lies in the senate, Reyna's on the battlefield, and Jason's in the mess hall. He's strongest when he can reach the troops and talk to them, put everyone at ease with those blue eyes and that scar on his lip. But with our forces scattered this way...

*She wasn't doubting his strength, and she'd never argue it with Ven because it wouldn't get her anywhere, but with the state of the legion... it left cracks, the sort of little thing Octavian loved to poke at. And if one of those cracks was Jason's ease in Camp Halfblood, it wouldn't be easy to argue against it when Octavian is at his best, on the senate floor.*

I'm not worried about them breaking this barrier. That's too big for Lycaon and his pack. I'm worried about them finding a hole, something small. He'd have liked to kill Reyna and Jason in their sleep, and have us never believe the city was under threat until he was done. The sort of thing the Little Tiber and our walls prevented, our night's watch looked for... hopefully there are no holes in this barrier.

What? No, he could stop me, he felt my powers were a disruption to the daily activity in the city because once inside I could move freely. He was certain I was trouble since my first day crossing his line.
