[Alcuin's grateful for one of the powers he inherited from his mother, for once- at least he doesn't have to show the whole camp how hard he's been crying. He looks as pretty as ever, but his aura of calm and happiness has been replaced by one of intense purpose.]

I need to learn to fight better than I do. Sword, dagger, bow and arrow, hand to hand- I need to improve my skills. Would anyone be willing to tutor me? I'll owe you a big favour.

Yes. I think it's important to know how to fight. [Especially when you're attempting to formulate a revenge plot. Knowing how to kill things is a really good start.]

Obviously. [He's an Ares kid, fighting is pretty much what he does.] I might be up for it.

You know, I bet you could sit in on the morning training we do.

[It's Roman but hey, he started from nothing and seems to be getting better!]

Two hours before breakfast! So, uh, I hope you like mornings.

But hey, I was worthless at fighting a few months ago and I think I'm doing pretty good now so if you're serious about it, I bet it would help.

I'm half decent at all of those, if you're still looking.

I think as much help as possible would be good. I'm all right with bow and arrow, but everything else is... not as good.

Well, bows and arrows are good for far away hits, but they take too long if you're up close. I'v a sword mum gave me myself ages ago, so that's what I use more. But we can work with whatever you feel is best suited.

I'm pretty good at hand-to-hand, if you'd like, and decent with a dagger.

Wonderful. I have a dagger, but I'm not very good with it yet.

[He'll take any offer, honestly. He just needs to learn, and learn as fast as he can.]

Okay, well, I just got in but whenever you want to start learning let me know and we can set up a place to meet! Can even show you some parkour tricks if you'd like.

[She uncurls the whip she keeps around her waist from through her belt loops.]

I've never been good with the sword or anything like that, but I can teach you to control a whip.

I would be willing to try it. It's an unusual weapon, but perhaps it would suit me.

It's not so much...

[She sighs a little, trying to explain.]

It doesn't attack in such a straightforward way. The whip is mostly used to scare enemies off. But with practice, it can be controlled and cause much pain.

There's fighting and then there's fighting. There's probably tons of folk better suited to teaching the normal stuff. I suppose it's a matter of how much you want to be able to win a fight at any cost.

I want to win. I'm willing to cheat if I must.

In my opinion, it's not cheating if you win. The whole idea of rules for fighting is made up by people who either aren't smart enough or aren't quick enough to deal with the nasty tricks.

I was learning martial arts way before I got here. I can help you in hand to hand. [Pause and then she adds.] My...gift allows me to handle any weapon so I assume I could train you in those as well. I was practicing by myself or with some of the other cabins, I wouldn't mind teaching someone if you're looking for more private kind of lessons.

I have a few offers right now, but perhaps at a later time? I want to train as much as I can, but overloading myself doesn't seem to be wise either.
