Campers, please note the Greek festival calendar for the month of April (Mounukhion). Though all festivals should be celebrated, please note that we will be giving special preference to the Festival of Mounukhia this month, in honor of Artemis. Please be aware that Artemis will be in our midst during this time, and as such, you are all to be on your best behavior. Yes, I am looking at you, Mr. Olson.
I cannot be held responsible if you are all turned into pigs.
See below for honored days:
Please also remember that the only sacrifices to be made here at Camp Half-Blood are those of a less bloodthirsty nature. Come to my office hours if you have any questions as to what the gods would prefer.
Without further ado, please see the special consideration that Camp Half-Blood pays to honor Artemis this Mounukhion.
Festival of Mounukhia
April 15
As we are all aware, this festival honors our Lady of the Beasts and Moon Goddess, Artemis. Campers will begin preparations on Tuesday, April 9th by crafting decorations in honor of the goddess. Decorations will continue throughout the week. Iris Cabin will take lead on this.
The cooking of amphiphon round cakes, complete with dadia (small torches), will occur on Saturday, April 14th. We will offer the cakes in prayer at the Aphitheatre on the 15th. Please continue to practice the hymn to Artemis in your music classes, written below for your convenience:
The nymphs have graciously offered to dedicate the Arkteia (Playing the She-Bear) dance to our Lady of the Beasts, and all campers who wish to join may participate in their practices throughout the week. They will be held by the lake. Please note that while nymphs may dance naked in honor of the goddess, this is not appropriate for campers. Saffron khitones are required by all campers participating in the dance and can be found for sale at the camp store.
I know this is a stressful time for us all. We hope the continued festival celebrations will help all campers take some time to relax.
