SITUATION POST: JULY 10, 2013
[It pretty much goes without saying that ever since Camp Half-Blood's opened its doors to Roman and Egyptian-pantheon based children - and if the rumors are true, Norse as well - many unexpected things have been happening.
The Roman Legion is regaining its numbers, and every day more and more children with purple shirts pile into the Greek camp. Someone, however, has been missing - their guardian, Lupa, the Roman she-wolf goddess.
Imagine the surprise when on a regular Wednesday, at about 6:00 PM, on the nose, a lone wolf prowls through the magically-protected border. She sounds a loud howl, and about ten other female wolves come charging through the gates, blowing away everything in their path, and come to settle themselves in the forest.
Their alpha, however, is making her way to the Big House in search of her legionnaires.]

But power and discipline are two different things.
In her running, she leads him to a clearing of trees in the woods, looking up at him, almost commanding him wordlessly to stop. She sits in the center of the clearing, looking up at the sky, as if she's waiting.
Then she howls again, and about ten other she-wolves come out from the trees, each with their hungry eyes trained on John.]

[John stops in the clearing, blinking a little as Lupa waited. When she howled, he felt a chill. That. That couldn't mean anything good for his well being.]
[Lo and behold, he was right. That sure was a pack of wolves.]
Oh boy.

Now, you must show the potential for discipline - the mark of a true Roman warrior. You must fight, but not kill. If you kill, we will kill you.
[And almost immediately after she's done speaking, one of the larger wolves lunges at John, snarling.]

[Also, if he got eaten, he could think of a few people who would kick his ass. Like Naomi. He bet she could probably strangle his ghost with vines if he died and lost her necklace.]
[This is such an awesome day.]
[Fuck his life.]
You know, I am pretty sure the paperwork for this place said nothing about a trial by WOLVES OH MY GOD!
[John does a fucking barrel roll and probably just barely misses losing an arm.]
Okay, you know what? Bring it on.
no subject
The wolf who lunges at John is very clearly a snapper, and she keeps jumping back and forth at him, gnashing her teeth, trying to grab a bite of prime demigod.]
no subject
[Being on the defensive isn't going to do him very good for very long, though. He'll wear down and then they'll probably fucking eat him. He pivots after one particular dodge, pulling his arm back and slinging it forward, sending a blast of wind at whatever wolf was currently in his grill.]
You said no killing, does that mean I'm aiming for K.O's here, or what?
no subject
[She's glad she doesn't have to say everything. He picks up on her, more or less, and that's something the Legion values - a member of their army who will read between the lines and do what their centurions tell them, ven if it's just implied.
The wolf lets out a loud whimper as the wind slams her backwards, skidding across the ground - but there are two more that take her place, and one's gnawing on John's pant leg.]
no subject
[Okay, so maybe he could just keep knocking them back and he would eventually knock them out.]
no subject
In fact, that alone is making Lupa almost call for her pack to stop, but she holds out a little longer. There are wolves being knocked back everywhere, and the whining howls can be heard throughout camp. Still, many get back up, charging at John with everything they have.]
no subject
[Later he would be impressed beyond comprehension he didn't fucking get propelled into a tree.]
[Of course, that didn't mean his mastery was perfect and it was only a matter of time before he slipped up. The wolves weren't staying down and John was realizing it was taking a lot more than he'd hoped to get them off his ass.]
[They lunged in before he could take a minute to catch his breathe and start again. He loses his footing, being a clumsy dipshit, and falls. They are likely upon him before he can get back up.]
Oh fuck, oh fuck!
no subject
Lupa notices this and takes a deep breath in, focusing her voice so it will be apparent to John over the growls and barks.]
Concentrate, John.
no subject
[Of course, that is until he hears the voice. It jars him enough that he is able to take a second and pull himself back together. Easier said than done, he wants to think back.]
[But no, come on, Egbert. Dying here, being eaten by wolves would be really freaking stupid. He brings his hand up to actually attempt to swat away the one that's currently barking in his face, that capricious tawny one. A weak current of static electricity likely passes through them in John's duress, but its nothing to write home about.]
[If she backs off then, its only a second before he pulls together another blast of wind.]
no subject
Some of the wolves, who have weakened, are starting to arise again, but Lupa gets up on all fours, barking a command.]
Betas, halt.
[Finally, she walks over to John, commanding attention, and stops at his feet.]
John Egbert, should you choose to accept it, the Twelfth Legion Fulminata shall accept you as a probatio.
no subject
[He takes a deep breath and rubs his face. Was that it? Did he pass? God, he hopes so. He watches Lupa approach him and this time his back straightens a little before her.]
[He lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding when she says that and laughs.]
Well. I got this far. I might as well go full Roman, I guess. So long as your pack doesn't try to eat me again. Are they going to try and eat me again?
no subject
[Lupa gives another howl, and the sound seems to revive her pack. One by one, they each stand up proud, and howl together, sounding their voices for John's victory.]
You currently have two brothers, full members of the Legion, Jason and Ventus. I suspect they will be happy to meet you.
no subject
[He jolts at all the simultaneous howling but, once he realizes they're howling for him, he kind of grins and rubs the back of his neck. Okay, so this was kind of cool when they weren't trying to eat him]
Oh, yes. I definitely need to go give them both a hard time for this whole shenanigan.
Um. So, are we cool?
[Is that something he should even ask a Goddess? But hey, he did call her doggie earlier and he's not really in the market for celestial enemies.]
What happens now?
