Petal 01 - IM - open to action or whatever

[The IM today shows the recently arrived counselor of the Demeter cabin, rubbing the back of his neck a little awkwardly. When he speaks, he has a light French accent]

Sorry I haven’t been to camp in a while. [More like "since the whole Titan fiasco started"] Mama--ah, my stepmother, not..you know--didn’t want me over in the States with all the chaos going on and then there was a problem with my passport. For those of you who are new, I’m Jean Prouvaire of the Demeter cabin, though I really prefer it if people use 'Jehan'. I'm the counselor for my cabin as well.

[He smiles]

Um, if anyone needs any help, anything at all, I’d be happy to help. You don’t have to be in my cabin or anything. I’m usually outside somewhere and if you can’t find me one of the nymphs should be able to.

[He waves and cuts the IM]

[He mumbles something about "that's what Enjolras said" but doesn't clarify. Wasn't the hellhound enough?]

I'll need to talk to Anna, then.

So where are you from, Naomi?

Aka I never actually thought of where she was from outside of a small town. Whoops.

[She nods, then blinks. Oh. No one's asked her that before.]

'm from a really small town in Massachusetts.

What about you? 'Cause you can't be from here 'cause you needed a passport...

Cannes, France. It's near the Mediterranean Sea and where the Cannes Film Festival is held, if you know what that is.

[Her eyes go wide, and then a silly little smile forms. She takes the edges of her camp shirt and gives a little curtsy.]

Comm... Comment alla-vas?

[It's safe to say she messed that up completely. What she meant to say was "How are you".]

[He grins]

Close! It's comment allez-vous, though since we're siblings ca va would be just as appropriate.

[She nods, tucking that away. Then she gives another little curtsy, trying again.]

Ca... Ca va?

[This time when she looks at him it's both for an answer to her question and to make sure she said it right. After all there's always the chance she misunderstood.]

Bien, merci.

[He grins, nodding]

Not bad! Not bad at all.

Bien's good, right?

[She giggles, moving to clasp her hands behind her back.]

My big brother takes French, so he's tried teaching me some of it. 'm not that good though.

[shylyintrepid]

It is, yes. You're really not that bad, for a native English speaker. I could teach you some more, if you'd like. You can surprise your brother when you see him next by having a better French accent than he does and knowing more phrases.

[Her eyes go wide at that.]

Really? You'd teach me?

[shylyintrepid]

Why not? It isn't fair that the Aphrodite kids are the only ones who are bilingual!

[Naomi absolutely lights up at that, and the shyness is temporarily forgotten as she hugs Jehan.]

[Oh. Okay! Jehan laughs and returns the hug]

It'll be a nice change from archery and swordfighting, yes?

[She's beaming when she pulls away, nodding her head.]

Yeeeah... 'm really bad at both of those.

[shylyintrepid]

You'll get better, good enough to stay alive against Titans and Percy.

[serenesuccessor]

Titans were what you guys fought... Right? Percy told me about them...

[And terrified her, though he hadn't meant too.]

Right. But they're not an issue right now.

[He hopes]

Percy still is, however.

[serenesuccessor]

Huh?

[Her eyes widen.]

But Percy's really nice!

[shylyintrepid]

He's still someone to beat in swordfighting.

[serenesuccessor]

Oh... I guess that's true...

I don't think 'm gonna beat anyone anytime soon.

Eventually you will. Trust me.
