Three Pair [IM | Action]

[The IM is probably a familiar face by now. He made an IM not too terribly long ago. Actually the subject of this one makes the previous one kind of ironic.]

Ah- so, I'm a little curious about whether or not prophetic dreams are common in a place like this. When I was discussing with Miss Mary about the possibilities of using an oracle to find the location of our Pantheon's things, I didn't think the oracle would be me.

[He pauses, rethinking his wording there.]

I don't think I'm an actual oracle, but I did apparently have a dream last night that was alarming enough that Mr. Chiron deemed it necessary to act on.

So, I'm being sent on a quest! To find my belt and gloves- or Thor's belt and gloves.

I've already asked Artemis if he would come along. Mr. Chiron wanted me to bring along one other person.

[Hello, boys, you totally asked for a know-it-all Irish teenager, right? Of course you did! Why wouldn't you?]

Megingjörð, the belt Eiji is talking about, was said to double Thor's strength. Járngreipr, the gloves, were to protect Thor's hands from the shortened handle of the hammer. It was supposed to be longer, but Loki interfered with the process at three points in Mjölnir's creation, and on the third attempt caused the flaw to occur. To be fair, he'd made a bet with the twin dwarfs, Sindri and Brokkr, to see if they could create a weapon as beautiful as Odin's spear and Freyja's boat. If they won, then they got Loki's head.

Of course, the twins won, but Loki talked his way out of getting his head removed. He told them that since it would require chopping it off at the neck, and the neck wasn't part of the deal, then it was considered null and void. Of course, as a consolation prize, so to speak, they sewed Loki's mouth shut.

[Tybalt blinks at Artemis when he's done speaking]

Yes, thank you for that information dump, Artemis.

[He can see why they sewed Loki's lips shut]

Why would he need protection from a shorter handle, though?
fowlisfair: (No I didn't know that at all)

[Look, he expects Tybalt to make a comment on it, okay. He knows he talks a lot.

Also, Artemis expects the question, and holds up a rough sketch of the hammer.]

An excellent question, Tybalt. If you see how short the handle is typically portrayed, enough so that Mjölnir even became a coat of arms, the gloves are to protect Thor's hands from sliding along the handle and straight into the metal part. Since I suspect, and is typically depicted in various art forms, that the lightning gets channeled, stored, or however, it would be most unfortunate for Thor to touch it with his bare hands.

...did you really just happen have that sketch ready?

[Congratulations, Arty. You've confused Tybalt enough that he sounds his age]

[He looks slightly pleased with himself.]

[Awwww yeaaaaah, victory for Artemis Fowl!]

No, I finished drawing it a few hours ago. Puts things into more perspective, especially considering that getting the gloves and belt are the first steps to getting the weapon. The problem is, it's impossible to tell whether we'll find Mjölnir or if we'll have to find the original dwarfs to create a new one. We won't know if it was destroyed during Ragnarok or if perhaps it's sitting right where Thor died.

[He raises an eyebrow.]

A bit hard to go from Midgard to where the Midgard Serpent was kept.

I think it could be possible, but I would need to know how the Aesir had traveled between the Nine Realms in the first place. I don't know if our memories of that method would be sufficient. We may need to find an outside source who would know the science behind it.

Unfortunately. Not even I could create a device to aid us in this until more information is given. Traveling through planes is really only a theory.

Layman's terms, please. I can only have one mythology I know about, and frankly it's going to be mine.

[personal profile] fowlisfair 2014-04-09 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Alright. It would essentially take going from our plane of existence to another plane, if I understand how the Nine Realms work. The Serpent killed Thor with its venom after he took nine steps. Now, the Serpent was going to consume the realm we live in now--Midgard. Since Thor died after successfully keeping the Serpent from doing so, it stands to reason that the hammer might be located where his body had fallen. The problem is that it's unclear where that battle took place. For all we know, it could have "fallen" into Niflheim, the world of primordial ice, or some other Realm.

[personal profile] willyouwalk 2014-04-09 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Or it could have fallen in the middle of New Mexico for all anyone knows. Oh, reincarnation. It's never as interesting as it sounds, is it?

[Not that you guys are reincarnated but he lacks a proper word for it]
fowlisfair: (But I can't give up now)

[personal profile] fowlisfair 2014-04-09 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Artemis is pretty sure there isn't an English word for what they are.]

Really, it could be anywhere. It pains me to say it, but we'll just have to rely on Eiji getting a prophetic dream about its location. Otherwise, he'll just trip over it on accident while out on a quest of some sort.

[SIGH. The sad thing is that he thinks it's perfectly plausible that the latter will happen more than the former.]
willyouwalk: (Plotting)

[personal profile] willyouwalk 2014-04-09 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
If we're being honest, tripping over it is much more likely to happen for anyone.
fowlisfair: (Just lookit this smug mug)

[personal profile] fowlisfair 2014-04-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I would hope that it would be Eiji who tripped over it. Anyone else is more likely to fracture his or her foot in the process.
