Iris Message (Forward dated to 3/20)

[A rainbow is sent out to the entire camp sometime after lunch. Said rainbow is featuring a very surreal sight.

The sight? The normally happy and energetic Naomi is genuinely angry.

She's actually glaring at the rainbow, looking deadly serious as she holds up a necklace. When she speaks her voice is level.]

Does anyone know who gave this to me?

[Now, anyone who knows Naomi should know exactly who gave her that necklace. It was her older brothers - Kou's - necklace. He'd given it to her before she left for camp.

Except Naomi can't remember that. All she remembers is that whoever gave the necklace to her was important to her. She can remember vague things - but the person's face, their voice, their name, it was all a blur.

And the fact that she can't remember someone she knows is incredibly important to her? It is infuriating.]

Your brother Kou, petite. Why do you ask?

[The anger ebbs into confusion.]

Kou..?

[The name sounds familiar, like it's been on the tip of her tongue all day.]

I can't remember him, I mean, I... I know he's important but I can't remember why.

He's your older brother. He's not a camper, though. You don't remember him?

I just said I couldn't!

But you love him! How--when did you stop being able to remember who gave you the necklace?

[The question catches her a bit off-guard. Frowning Naomi begins fiddling with the necklace. At least one habit wasn't forgotten.]

Ummmm I donno? Today I definitely couldn't remember who gave it to me. [It's been a gradual process, naturally, but hell if she remembers that.] I remember that their really important but that's it. I don't even remember what he looks like...

And everyone's acting odd...oh, petite, I wish I knew what was going on. This isn't right!

What d'you mean?

[It's not right at all. She clasps the pendant between her hands trying to stay calm.]

It's just all wrong, that's all. The whole camp seems to be going nuts.

Did... Did we make a god angry again?

I don't think so, no.

Then why can't I remember!?

[And there are frustrated tears she's scrubbing away.]

No idea. But you've had it a while.

Jehan said it's my brothers necklace. Um, my brother that doesn't go to camp?

[And she shakes her head, a bit frustrated mostly because she'd said that already.]

No. I can't.

That sounds about right, most of the campers here have real families back home. Including siblings that aren't demigods.

Weird... *Callie looks like she's thinking.* Think about your last birthday at home, before you came to camp, are there any holes?

[Naomi gives Callie an irritable look because... Was that first bit necessary? Granted she wouldn't care any other time. She's just incredibly annoyed today.]

Why?

If someone has thrown a mistspell on you the memories will be intact, but wrong. Like mortals with demi-god work.

If your memories are choppy it's something else, probably something alchemic. But memory manipulation isn't a very common tactic, outside of mistspells.

Understand why I'm asking now?

[She keeps frowning.]

If I can't remember my brother, how is remembering my birthday s'pose to help. It's not like he's even been cut out entirely 'cause he's in some memories but he's just blurred 'nd I can't make out his voice. Or his name 'til Jehan told me. I just knew he was really important to me 'nd gave me this necklace.

So it doesn't sound like that mistspell or something alche... alcka... That other word!

[Forgive her for her tone, she is stressed and angry about all this.]

If you can't remember your brother, either your birthday will have gaps in it, like... someone cut out a scene from a video. If it was mistspell you'd probably remember someone else giving you the necklace.

*Callie's got limited patience, but given this is impacting her cohort, she does find it in her heart not to lose her cool.*

Alchemic. A charm or something, maybe a potion... I dunno, but since it doesn't seem to have the same effects on everyone it doesn't seem very... thought out. You lost a person, Heather lost a skill... A pretty important one.

But I just said that he's not totally gone, but he's not fully there! I know he's important but I couldn't remember why until Jehan told me. 'nd even then I still can't remember him!

Do... Do you have cotton balls in your ears or something!?

[Naomi's not one to want to rip out her hair, but it's slowly getting to that point. Frustrated tears are beginning to form.]

No. I did everythin' like I normally do.

Know, or felt? Did you know he was important, or did you feel like a part of your heart was missing?

If you felt it, then the spell is entirely in your head, and any strong feelings will might punch a hole in it. Which could be useful for others.

...If this is another prank by someone in camp I'm going to feed them my probatio tablet...

Look, relax, so far nobody has attacked camp. And most memory things are reversible. Since this doesn't look to be Lethe, don't even need to be a Somnus child to rule that out.

[Now Naomi does tangle her hands into her hair. Her breath gives a hitch, and relaxing is easier said then done.]

You try relaxing when you forget somebody important 'nd we don't know how to reverse this!
