Shot 01 -- IM/Action

[Bucky shoots the rainbow a charming grin. The effect is ruined a bit by the healing black eye and the cut on his cheek but hey, it works. (Someone had a run in with the shabti guards. Not fun. He doesn’t recommend it.)]

So I’m guessin’ the giant stone things are a new thing? No one ever mentioned ‘em before, just guards and a dragon.

[Also he’s pretty sure they look kinda like those Pharaoh guys he saw in the museum once but he’s not sure]

Just sayin’, that’s something you’d want to mention to a fella before he gets here. Bucky Barnes, at your service.

[He gives a sort of cocky, lazy salute, still grinning. The grin continues as he asks his next question, but he’s clearly a bit worried]

Anyone here seen a scrawny sixteen-year-old, by the way? Shorter’n me, weighs about a hundred pounds soaking wet, probably doin’ something stupid or drawing? He looks like he’s going to kick it if you look at him wrong. His name is Steve—if anyone knows where I can find him or knows where he is, tell him Bucky got outta that damn hotel and is looking for him.

Yeah, the Lotus Hotel. I heard someone else got stuck there too.

[Nico winces at that.]

Yeah, you're talking to him right now. [He hesitates.] Nico di Angelo, Cabin Thirteen counselor, son of Hades.

Mind if we meet in person?

I don't mind. Would you prefer I went to you?

Nah, I can find you. Hades cabin or somewhere else?

Hades is fine. I'll be waiting out front.

Got it.

[And soon enough Bucky's there, looking for the scrawny kid.]

[Nico takes comfort in the fact that he isn't the only scrawny kid in camp. He steps out of the shadows of the cabin, treating Bucky to a curious look.]

Hey.

[Bucky jumps, biting back a curse]

Fu-- Can you not do that? Please? Scared the crap outta me.

[deathdiduspart]

[He looks mildly amused.]

Habit, sorry. What did you want to talk about?

[wintersergeant]

When'd you go in? Steve an' I lost track around 1941 or somethin'.

[deathdiduspart]

I think it was 1942 when my sister and I got put in there. I don't remember if it was after the War ended or if it had just started to end.

[wintersergeant]

[He's pretty surprised to hear that Nico's from the 40s too, but also kinda glad]

Your sister here too?

[deathdiduspart]

[Nico tenses and shakes his head. He still hates thinking about it, but at least he doesn't lash out whenever she's mentioned, now.]

No. She died.

[Just gonna change the subject.]

How long ago did you and your friend escape?

[Right. Not mentioning that again, nope]

I got out in 2012, Steve got out last month 'pparently.

[Curious.]

If you don't mind my asking, what have you been doing the past two years?

[wintersergeant]

Avoidin' trouble, seein' the future, making my way here. Does it matter?

[deathdiduspart]

No, not really.

[He shrugs halfheartedly.]

How did you get out? My sister and I had some...help.

[wintersergeant]

Satyr came in and got me an' I'm guessing the same for Steve. It was his mom's idea to send us there, so.

[deathdiduspart]

You're lucky the satyr didn't get caught in the same trap.

[He shakes his head.]

Who's his mom?

[wintersergeant]

Athena. Wish I knew why she thought stickin' us in a magic hotel was a good idea but hey, there's medicine in the future so I can't complain too much.

[deathdiduspart]

[He frowns.]

Athena usually has a good reason for doing whatever she does. It had to have been pretty serious if it meant the Lotus Hotel was the best option, though.

Don't look at me, I just got us to Vegas in more or less one piece--but when you see Steve you'll see what I mean about medicine an' not complaining.
