Shot 01 -- IM/Action

[Bucky shoots the rainbow a charming grin. The effect is ruined a bit by the healing black eye and the cut on his cheek but hey, it works. (Someone had a run in with the shabti guards. Not fun. He doesn’t recommend it.)]

So I’m guessin’ the giant stone things are a new thing? No one ever mentioned ‘em before, just guards and a dragon.

[Also he’s pretty sure they look kinda like those Pharaoh guys he saw in the museum once but he’s not sure]

Just sayin’, that’s something you’d want to mention to a fella before he gets here. Bucky Barnes, at your service.

[He gives a sort of cocky, lazy salute, still grinning. The grin continues as he asks his next question, but he’s clearly a bit worried]

Anyone here seen a scrawny sixteen-year-old, by the way? Shorter’n me, weighs about a hundred pounds soaking wet, probably doin’ something stupid or drawing? He looks like he’s going to kick it if you look at him wrong. His name is Steve—if anyone knows where I can find him or knows where he is, tell him Bucky got outta that damn hotel and is looking for him.

Oh no, those are the shabti...they belong to the Egyptians.

They're called shabti. They're animated objects created by the magicians here who honor the Egyptian gods.

[Bucky thinks about that for a moment before just shaking his head]

No one mentioned any'a this when I got outta the hotel.

Would it have made a difference in the end?

Well, I wouldn't've tried to shoot one.

[Mary's eyebrows go up.] Oh, you have a gun?


[More culture shock for the girl with the French mother and Scottish father; people who casually own guns.]

Yeah.

[Had to break a few laws to get it but he has one. He points to the barrel of the gun, sticking out over his shoulder]

Can't stand usin' a bow and arrows, so I got a gun.

Like as not soon you'll be able to do even more without it. Do you know who your divine parent is?

Apollo. Hence the gun--I got the best aim in Brooklyn.

[Mary ooh's!] You're from New York! I stayed there when I first arrived in the country. At the Four Seasons...do you know it?

[wintersergeant]

The what?

[Whoops that was built in the 90s]

The Four Seasons? It's a lovely hotel. Have you been to the Coney Island? I hear they have good hot dogs there. I only ever had one since coming here.

[Oh Mary, you sweet summer child.]

Yeah, I've been to Coney Island but there wasn't any place called the Four Seasons anywhere in New York when I was there last.

[longmayshereign]

How long ago was that?

[wintersergeant]

Eighty...three? Eighty somethin' years ago.

[longmayshereign]

[Again Mary's brows go up.]

You know, a friend of mine had a very similar story...Nico di Angelo. He said he was stuck in the Lotus Hotel for some time. Is that where you were?

[wintersergeant]

...yeah. Didn't think other kids got outta that place, though. Di Angelo, you said?

[longmayshereign]

I did indeed. He resides in Hades cabin.

[wintersergeant]
