[Sadie, if anyone cared to notice, has been insanely busy lately and almost always on an IM or with a bowl of oil scrying. If asked, she said she’ll explain later.
Turns out she doesn’t have to. Late Wednesday an IM starts, broadcasted to the whole camp.
Camp, meet Sadie’s brother Carter Kane, Pharaoh and Eye of Horus. He doesn’t have all the regalia right now, just his crook and flail nearby.
To someone off screen:]
And Sadie said I just...talk?
[Amos’s voice:]
Yes.
[Carter’s face makes it very clear that he serious doubts his sister but whatever. He clears his throat before speaking again, this time much more officially.]
Hello, Camp Half-Blood. I am Carter Kane, Pharaoh of the House of Life and Eye of Horus. I’m pretty sure you all know my sister, Sadie. Let me just say--I’m sorry.
[From the Hecate cabin, you can hear Sadie go “CARTER”. Carter just presses on]
But that isn’t why I’ve sent you this, uh, Iris Message. I understand that the leaders of New Rome are in your camp and I need to speak with them about a small problem we’re having in Egypt with some of their...with some of their dead. If something’s happened and the praetors aren’t there, then I need to speak with whoever’s in charge of New Rome in their stead.
[[This is the start of a plot! Also please note that just because we're NPCing Carter for this, it doesn't mean he's no longer appable! He's basically like Rachel Dare--very much an appable character that we'd kill for but one that we need to NPC for this.]]

[IM]
Yeah, they're around somewhere.
So, uh... What's going on with the dead people? ...Are they zombies?
[She might sound more excited about that than she should.]
[IM]
Uh, sort of. It's a mummy problem.
[IM]
...
Dude, seriously?! That is so cool!
[IM]
[IM]
...Unless they bite you and turn you into mummies too. Can they do that?

*Rome has a lot of people in charge, just of different things. Oh and really who let Callie respond to this.*
What... specifically, are you looking for from the Legion?
no subject
no subject
*Valid concern if you're Callie.*
Also, where are the mummies? Because if they're in Egypt this will get... complicated.
no subject
If it's complicated, we'll figure something out.

I know the Senate would freak out at the very notion of going there, even with all that's going on with Gaea. Never been too clear on what's covered by that rule... but Praetor Reyna should know.
I'm sure if our hosts let us leave, she will offer what help we're able to.
no subject
[Amos responds and Carter turns back to the girl]
Sadie said people can leave with permission. I'm pretty sure angry Roman mummy zombies is enough of a problem to get permission.
no subject
You would think zombies would be enough reason for a quest, but it might not. They require a prophecy from an oracle. And if she doesn't provide one when needed, well, sucks to be you.
Romans have very specific rules about crossing the Atlantic. Which is the main stumbling point. Anyway, if your problem is zombies, you should also ask for the Greek Demigod Nico. He's more aware of how zombies work.
no subject
Look, who the heck are you? I want to speak to your praetor, not a Greek demigod, not some random Roman demigod, a Roman praetor. I think I'd trust my sister and her advice on what to do, thanks.
no subject
Praetor Reyna should get to you when she's less busy. Without Praetor Jason she's got a lot more on her shoulders. We aren't without our own problems.
*War to save the world, Greek Goddess trying to kill us, our home being destroyed and where was all this fellowship then?*
no subject
[Naomi... NAOMI. There are way more important things in Carter's message to ask then that.]
no subject
[Not what he expected to be asked, won't lie.]
She just looks exactly like Mom.
no subject
So does that mean you look like your Daddy?
[IM]
Reyna is currently the only praetor here. Jason is out helping some members of the Legion. She should respond shortly, however I would suggest informing Chiron and Mr. D as well.
[He frowns now.]
Is this information sensitive or would you just prefer telling Praetor Reyna first?
[IM]
[IM]
I think Sadie's going to try coaching my sister on how to annoy her brothers the Sadie Kane way. Any tips on how to prevent that? Or at least to do damage control?
[IM]
[Carter groans, running a face over his hand]
Sorry, man. You're on your own.
[im]
Reyna here, Praetor of the 12th Legion and Senator of New Rome... I was told the very brief basics of these Roman Mummies, am I to understand that they're causing more problems as of late?
[im]
Exactly. We think the chaos from your earth god waking up and Ragnarok is waking up people who have been dead for centuries. We're hoping that's the case, anyway, since the other option is a lot worse.
[Just saying]
We know how to fix it, we think, but since these aren't our dead we may need back up. Could you send a few godlings out, if we end up needing them?
[im]
Seeing as neither of her dogs stirred at what he had to say.]
Dare I ask what the other possibility is? Irregardless, we will bring this to the attention of the Camp directors and I will impress the necessity to send a few Romans out there to help, should you require the back up. I do not have a full cohort to send you, unfortunately, but we will see what can be done.
[im]
[Sigh magic]
Uh, think zombie invasion. That's the closest thing I can think of for it.
[im]
I'll request, then, that a child of Pluto be sent along with the Romans that do go....
Anything to prevent a... um... Zombie invasion.
[im]
[im]
[im]
It'll be dangerous--we're pretty sure there's some curses in the area and probably some demons, too. If they want to send a faun into that sort of thing, then sure.
no subject
With the dead? Did some ghosts get out of the Underworld?
[ Maybe Hazel could do something about this, daughter of Pluto and all. Though he does wonder how they would escape in the first place. ]

Last I checked, Romans didn't mummify their dead.
[ Not that he doesn't believe you, Carter! He's just... surprised, and confused. And, okay, maybe there's a smidgen of disbelief. But only a little. ]

What seems to be the problem? Are the mummies cursed somehow? Were they cursed recently or is this an older spell? Are they pulling a horror movie move on you? [ A small gasp. ] They aren't leaving their resting places are they?

[IM]
Pharaoh Carter. I wanted to thank you for the shabti you sent to our aid at the end of January. I helped Sadie position them around camp, and they were invaluable in the battle that followed.
I am of the Greek camp and hold no authority, but I hope you are able to get in contact with those who can help with your problem.
[IM]
[He nods at Hephaistion's words]
I couldn't let werewolves be the end of my sister and her friends, could I?
IM
I know that you need them right now, but please. Whatever I can do as well, you have me.
no subject
You're Sadie's brother.
[Spoken like a true genius. He looks nothing like Scott expected him to.]
