Word 06 - Open to Action - November 1st, late morning
[Sadie's been busy this last week or so. There were, apparently, Things Isis had finally chosen to tell her, which had meant she, Carter, Amos, and the others had to do some emergency scrying chats to figure out just what it meant and then Sadie had to get Carter's permission to tell the camp.
So, after breakfast, Sadie starts a camp-wide IM. She looks somewhat formal,, dressed nicely in her magician's gear (which more or less look like pjs, though Sadie's look a little less pj-like because it's Sadie) with all the charms and necklaces and she's taken to wearing. Her stripe is still black from last night.]
Hullo. For those who don't know me, I'm Sadie Kane, a magician. My brother is Carter Kane, aka the Pharaoh and [airquotes] "king" of the lot of us. There's only two of us magicians here right now, but there might be more. That's not the point, though. A while back, Carter and Percy ran into something called a petsuchos. That's a giant crocodile demigod, more or less, son of Sobek, nasty little thing that nobody wants running around. Turns out it was just a regular crocodile that had been given an amulet, but the problem was that one, no one knew how the crocodile got the amulet and two, Egyptians and Greeks? Not supposed to mix. We're not even allowed to spend too much time in Manhattan. The reason for that is basically Order, capital "O". Order is good and what magicians who haven't gone crazy fight for. Mixing all these godlings? That'd normally cause Chaos. Chaos is very, very bad if it starts to outweigh Order. The world needs both, but we spent a year fighting off the embodiment of it so. You know. We like to keep things Orderly.
However, with Gaia waking up and the...Rag-na-rok? [She waves a hand] Whatever it is that caused the Norse gods to get sent to the bodies of teenagers. Because of those two things, there has been a huge wave of Chaos across the globe and nomes--that's our version of camps, three hundred and sixty of them including one in Antarctica--nomes everywhere are collapsing and magicians are either being sent here or to Heliopolis for protection. I came here with no clue as to what I was supposed to here. Isis only recently decided that, oh right, Sadie and Carter should probably know this sort of thing.
[Eyeroll]
The reason we're being sent here now is to keep an eye out for demons and whatnot that may break out of the Duat because of this Chaos, track down any rogue magicians who still hate us for, you know, saving the world, and to help restore Order. Carter's given me permission to answer questions as best I can, though no promises I'll be able to. Things are generally kept rather hush-hush. Thanks for listening.
[And cut. She's outside the Big House if people want to talk to her in person]

[ Approaching, Natalie has her hands in the pockets of her knit sweater, hood up with her curls poking out. ]
You look comfy in your formal wear. I guess you'd better be comfy when the world's going to shit and you've gotta save it again. [ She shrugs. ]

Proper magician's clothing. It's not meant for New England winters, though. Or winter at all.
[She's freezing]
You'd think they'd get along better with so many things in common.

She snorts softly. ] Well, yeah. It's pretty mild in Long Island, I think? Better here than, like, Vermont. Or anywhere in Canada.
So, uh, what's with these rogue magicians?
no subject
[Just saying]
When Carter and I came onto the scene, a lot of magicians didn't like us because we were using the gods which at the time was illegal. We stopped most of them, but we think a few may have avoided us and gone rogue.

She drops onto a step outside the Big House and pulls her knees to her chest, looking thoughtful. ]
Why did they ban the use of gods?

What signs of Chaos should we be looking out for? What form to demons take?

Re: [ IM ]
I'm afraid that since I know very little about your culture, I may have a lot of questions for you. Would that be okay? I'm afraid to say that the only other magician I've had the pleasure to meet didn't seem eager to answer any questions.

[She nods]
Honestly, he'd actually know more about the details since he was raised in it but I'll answer what I can. Other than Taco, we've been relatively fine.

[Speaking of which...]
I've been thinking, can you modify your brother's spells? Maybe get this thing to only activate when I say his full name or something like that? I keep almost slipping and saying Ca- [He cuts himself off with a curse in Greek.] Yeah. That.
They must've all talked or something to throw us all together like this - though hell if I've ever seen our side be okay with anything other than what they wanted. Some of them are pretty good about it, but as a whole group they kind of suck. Zeus nearly vaporized me when I wanted them to take some responsibility for the mess they caused.

[She frowns, thinking]
I might. Come by the Hecate Cabin and let me look at it. Carter mentioned the summoning spell and I promptly smacked him for because honestly. I know he was working with what he had but still.
no subject
[He shrugs, crossing his arms over his chest.] Have you ever notice if your gods are kind of... locked in? Like, they've been around for thousands of years. The Greeks might be more well-known, but the Egyptians are older, and from what you've said it doesn't sound like they're a lot smarter. Hermes told me last year that the gods were forgetful, and that it was in their natures to do that. Me and Thalia are the result of a broken oath by our fathers. I dunno, I think the gods can change, definitely - but the more time passes, the more I'm wondering if some of them want to change. And I think they've gotta want it before it really happens. And I don't think they're gonna want to give up any of their power, or "share" it even with another pantheon.
[Seriously, this place could turn into a tinderbox any day. Now that the truce is on, everything seems to be going well, but if any god puts a foot wrong... He and Carter felt it when dealing with that croc, that feeling of an imminent explosion. Not good.]
[He shrugs.] We did the best we could - we didn't have permission to do all this crossover stuff then. I'll be around in a minute.

[And she is. Khufu is sleeping nearby when Percy finally shows up]

[Still, they don't have to worry about it right now, so why borrow trouble? He'll keep it in mind, prepare for it, but not go into conspiracy theory over it. Right now he's gonna head over to Hecate cabin so he can have Sadie look at his hand, and when he gets there, he's gonna eye the baboon.]
I can't decide if Blackjack'd love that guy or hate him.
