*The image that appears in the Iris message is a little too close to her rainbow, at least at first. Eyes studying the sparkly refraction of light in water. Eventually she pulls back and smiles. She's certainly cheerful.*

Hello! I think I like camp, and cabins. If all cabins are like Cabin 9 inside.

*She's dressed in the usual hand downs of the forge kids. Her orange camp shirt has some grease stains on it, and her jeans are the same (and a size too large), the belt holding them up has been put together with ducktape too.*

I'm Sky. I was told this was the proper way to communicate with the whole camp, and I wanted to see if it worked. I like it, and rainbows. They are... cool. Well, Goodbye!

*She says 'cool' like she's been coached slightly on the use of the term, and it's still new. She waves again and the message vanishes. Sky can be found in either the Hephaestus cabin or the forges... she's the only one in the forges who thinks it's okay to be barefoot.*

[And it's then that Dany enters the forge, Drogon riding on her back, that she sees the little girl in the forges barefoot. She hasn't touched her, doesn't know that she's a machine just yet, and she walks up to her, taking off her own shoes and handing them over to her. If she's near the fire, is touched by it - well, it won't hurt her.]

When you are in the forges, sweet girl, you must wear shoes. Your skin could be burned badly.

*Sky was working on something involving a hollow bronze sledgehammer head, chain, and a three foot bronze pole. Small gears and weights in her hands being put together to make... something. She looked up.*

I couldn't be burned badly. But I will wear them next time I'm in here anyway.

But... what are shoes? Leo mentioned shoes before, but he had to leave before I could ask.

*Leo had helped collect clothes close to her size, but said they didn't have anything small enough for her. She knew what clothes were, and that articles of certain styles had different names. Like 'dress,' 'shirt,' and 'pants.' She assumes shoes and clothes were connected, but not how.*

[Dany can't quite tell what Sky is making, but it is intriguing. She moves closer to her, inspecting it from all angles.]

Shoes are a sort of foot covering, like clothes are a body covering. They can also protect our feet when we walk across more difficult terrain, like rocks.

[This child...she must be from a very strange background to not know what shoes are.]

Oh! Because damage to my feet would make most things hard to do. I understand.

*She seemed almost delighted at the concept, and it still seemed completely foreign to her. She took the gears and mechanical parts she was working on and attached the chain to it. Testing to see if the chain would cleanly guide into a spool. She frowned and tinkered some more.*

Still, I should be okay without them. At least for right now, I've never worn shoes in a forge before.

It would also be quite painful. I have gotten a splinter in my foot before - it was small, but quite agonizing.

[Dany watches her play with the chain, fitting it into the correct spot, and she reaches out, as if to ask permission, before adding another gear near the end of the loop.]

Dear child...I would prefer it - and I think my brother Leo would advise it, as he looks after the forges - if you did wear my shoes. We do not want you to get hurt. I've other pairs I can wear.

*Sky knew what pain was, it was a body's way of warning of possible hazardous damage. She was given more sensations after she accidentally melted a hand in one of the forge fires before her long nap. She might have to test what can cause her pain.*

What's a splinter?

*Sky tested it again with the added gear and the motion was much smoother. She smiled and started fixing the rig into the hammerhead. the end of the chain leading out where a handle would connect. Afterwards she eyed the blonde's shoes.*

My name is Sky. They wouldn't provide much protection from the heat, only from metal shards cutting into my skin. I think I'm okay, you need them more than I do in the forge. You're more fragile than I am.

*She seemed absolutely sure of that. But did nothing to really prove the point. She just went back to her project, kicking her legs under the table as she worked.*

It's the term we use for when a small piece of wood lodges itself under the skin.

[She places a hand on Sky's shoulder as she works, almost a nurturing gesture, and her eyes widen. She can feel the gears working, all parts of Sky's enchanted metallic body working together in harmony. She's a little taken aback - she has never found a machine to be so lifelike before.]

You are an automaton!

Oh, I can see how that would be a problem.

*Sky, of course, was aware of that bit of information about herself. She didn't mention it because it didn't seem important enough. And after that reaction Sky kept working.*

Leo didn't seem as surprised as you are! But he found me while I was asleep.

It's just...I have never met an automaton who looks so very much like you.

[She smiles a bit, apologetically. She's used to Festus and the like - bronze, gleaming, still full of life but very obviously a machine.]

Hi. [It's said rather easily, but shes considering.] The Legion didn't use these before now, so I still find them a little weird.

What's a Legion?

*She doesn't know, she finds out by asking.*

Is communicating by rainbows weird?

A little, but a lot of things are weird.

The talking into rainbows is weird.

Oh, you're from the cool making stuff cabin! And isn't this the coolest way to talk to people ever? It's so much better than phones and stuff!

*She pauses to think a moment.*

Phones are a bit easier to have ready access to. Especially now that they use a cellular grid system instead of requiring ground connections. Rainbows don't fit into pockets very well.

Yes, I've never been to a camp before. But so far I like it. It has a lot of sky and smells like so many odd things that aren't welding and engine grease!

But rainbows are a lot neater and you can pretend that you're a wizard and stuff. At least [he drops his voice] that's what I do. Just don't tell anyone 'cause being a wizard is supposed to be a secret!

What's your favourite part so far? Have you gotten to see the flying horses yet?

So far... I like the food. So many interesting tastes.

Yeah, the food here is pretty good. I always thought camp food was gonna be kinda gross, but this stuff is really, really cool. You can get pretty much anything you want, too!

Is food not from here also good? I haven't eaten food before I got to camp, that part of me is... new.

*Hephaestus had previously powered her on magic cells, but to make her more human she was given an engine of a sort, that fueled on basic foods. It was magic and hard to explain.*

You dunno what a beard is? It's hair that grows on your face! Like here! [He pats at the appropriate areas of his face because that would be silly if she thought eyebrows were tiny beards too.]

Food not from here is good too. ...You haven't eaten food before?

Oh. You don't have one. Do you need one to be a wizard?

*More very important questions.*

Nope. *She sounds excited.* So I don't know what I like to eat yet!

Yeah. I'm a wizard in training; my beard hasn't grown in yet.

[AKA there aren't enough cotton balls in the arts and crafts cabin to make a beard most magnificent for himself.

But that next part gets him to blink slowly at her.]
