[Ever since their return from the Red Room, Charlie has been a lot more subdued and lacks his usual level of energy. He's called his parents, has had it explained to them that he's at some sort of boarding school for troubled kids (since he ran away and all) and somehow they bought it.

That doesn't make anything better, though. He just wants to go home and see them and his cousin again.]

[Cabin Seven]

[Whenever Charlie got scared of thunderstorms, he would sometimes hide under the bed (so long as he didn't think the space was currently occupied by the boogeyman -- sometimes the boogeyman was there or in the closet) and play with his action figures, trying to make the sound effects louder than the thunder.

Since coming back, this is his new favourite activity. It makes him feel better and there's comfort in something so familiar.

Heck, he even pretends to be the boogeyman sometimes, reaching for his cabin mates or their guests' ankles.]

[Anywhere and Everywhere]

[The person he really wants to see out of all the other campers, the one that made him feel safe, is Eponine and Charlie is on a mission to find her. This will take him all over camp until he does, still lacking the usual bounce in his step. Not happy Charlie is kind of freaky, okay.]

[Whoooooop, there he goes, sliding out from under the bed by his arms. He looks up at Enjolras glumly, still kind of rattled from his talk with Eponine and the whole kidnapping thing.

Life sucks.]

I can't stop. If I stop being a scary monster, then the other, scarier monsters will be mean to me.

[He's almost about to respond "there's no such thing as monsters".

Except in their life there are.

So he just let's out an irritated sigh, letting go of Charlie's arms and sitting across from him.]

That doesn't mean you should try grabbing mine or Maya's ankles when we pass by. Would you like us to trip?

Also pretending to be a monster won't do you any good.

[Charlie stays flopped over on his stomach with his arms outstretched still. He tries to swing his legs, but they're still under the bed and he just ends up making a thumping noise before stopping.]

No, I don't wanna hurt anyone...

[HOLY SHIT HE LISTENED.]

I thought being a monster would make me scarier or somethin', so people won't try to hurt us anymore.

[The fact he listened actually concerns Enjolras.]

Pretending to be something does not solve your problems.

[Though his words make Enjolras pause, frowning.]

Things will never stop trying to hurt us, unfortunately. It's just the life we've been given. That's why we need to learn how to utilize our abilities so that we can protect ourselves and the people we care about.

But how are you supposed to do that when there are bigger, badder things out there? Don't'cha gotta be the biggest, baddest one of them all in order to win?

[At least that's how all of his pretendy fun time games end.]

It's not like I'm good with my slingshot or anything yet...

That's why you need to practice, so that you can defend yourself properly. You don't have to be the "biggest, baddest one" in order to win a fight.

[There's a pause, then Enjolras reaches over to poke Charlie's arm.]

Sit up, alright?

[He wiggles, making a face before sitting up properly.]
