Campers, please note the Greek festival calendar for the month of May (Thargelion). Though all festivals should be celebrated, please note that we will be giving special preference to the Festivals of Thargelia and Plunteria this month, in honor of Apollo and Athena, respectively.
See below for the full list of honored days:
Thargelion (May)
6/7 Thargelia festival in honor of Apollon
1st day Purification, driving out of the pharmakoi (scapegoats)
2nd day Offering of the thargelos, mixed vegetables
19 Bendideia festival in honor of Bendis
22 Kallunteria spring cleaning of the Temple of Athena
25 Plunteria festival for washing the statue of Athena
Again, I remind all campers that the only sacrifices to be made here do not involve loss of life. Come to my office hours if you have any questions as to what the gods would prefer.
Please pay extra attention to the special consideration that Camp Half-Blood pays to honor Athena this month:
As I know you are all well aware, for Plunteria we will be celebrating the goddess Athena. On Wednesday, in preparation, we will perform the Kallunteria, or spring cleaning of camp. I expect every camper to participate. Counselors will verify on Friday if all cabins and common areas meet Athena’s requirements.
Athena campers, please designate someone to relight Athena’s eternal flame in Cabin Six.
Figs will be served at all meals during the week of the 20th. Feel free to offer them to the goddess on the shores of the lake.
I expect the statue to be sparkling for the feast on Saturday. If there are any questions, do let me know.
