[IM] ONE
[What's this? A new face at Camp? She's blonde with blue eyes and has her hair pulled back in a braid. She's also holding what looks to be a spray bottle in one hand.]
I never thought I was dependent on technology until I had to leave it all behind. Now I have to get used to talking through a rainbow I guess.
[Karrin's frowning at it skeptically like she can't believe she's sitting here, spraying the air with a water bottle and talking into the rainbow. Obviously she thinks this is a bit ridiculous.]
But, whatever, I just got in this morning. I'm Karrin Murphy, I'm from Chicago, and I guess I'm here to learn about being a former Norse goddess or something. Not sure I really want that if it entails becoming anything like the woman that showed up at my house, but I guess I don't get much choice in the matter.
[Who could she possibly be talking about? It's a mystery. She doesn't sound happy about being away from home either, but at least she's relatively calm about it. Or maybe she just hasn't fully accepted it yet.]
Oh well, what's this I hear about combat training?
[So, want to say hi to the new girl? She's hanging out by Hermes' cabin for the moment or you can IM her back.]

[Chloe, the most eloquent. She's squinting into her own rainbow, because that's just weird. Is that possible?]
no subject
Uh...how familiar are you with Norse mythology, specifically Ragnarok?
no subject
Next to nothing? I think Ragnarok is... the end of the world?
no subject
[She brushes some of her hair behind her ear.]
Anyway, that happened and the gods' powers were dispersed out onto some mortals who were apparently destined for it or some bullcrap like that. So, here I am, completely ignorant to all this and BAM suddenly I'm Miss Chosen Valkyrie of the Norse pantheon.
[She sounds so excited...not.]
no subject
[Chloe looks thoughtful at that. She guesses that only the Norse have that trick handy.]
Hey, I think that's pretty cool. [Totally picking up on that tone. Optimism, here we go! /o/] Most of us were pretty ignorant of being demigods, too. So you're not entirely alone on that front, at least. So, do you get any abilities with that "chosen one" thing?
no subject
But Karrin appreciates the reassurance.]
Yeah. So far it's just the ability to use any weapon I get my hands on. But if there are other powers I haven't seen evidence of it yet...and I still haven't fully tested out that one either. Hera said once I started getting more of the eitr back I would probably get more of my abilities.
no subject
Any weapon at all, no matter what it is? What about if it's not a typical weapon? I mean, technically, you can use anything to defend yourself if you know how.
no subject
[She might be a little TOO excited to try this actually.]
I'll have to experiment.
no subject
[:|a Not that any of them really get instructors on their abilities. Chloe just kind of experiments where she can.]
no subject
Welcome to Camp Half-Blood, Karrin, I trust you will find it to your liking.
[But she stops for a second, raising an eyebrow. A girl following the ancient Egyptian faith had appeared all too recently, and the prophecy did say 'the gods of all'.]
Sorry...Norse?
no subject
[It's weird, but just give her time. She can tell that despite the weirdo gods, the giggly nymphs, and the odd satyrs...it might be a nice place.]
But so far it hasn't been bad.
[Karrin nods.]
That's what the crazy woman said when she visited my house. She said I was part of the Norse pantheon. Don't know much about the Norse myself other than they were tied to the vikings and there's that Thor guy.
[And, unfortunately, she no longer had a cellphone by which to Google this information from. Oh well.]
no subject
[Dany looks a bit bashful for just a second - but really, she should have expected this sort of thing by now. She straightenss up, trying to look like a respectable member of Greek society again.]
I'm afraid I don't know anything about them, so you're far better off than myself.
no subject
[She paused and then amended.]
Well, okay, I take that back. I was raised Catholic so I kinda believed in that God, but now...
[Karrin hesitates. Kinda hard to maintain your monotheistic religion like this. Then again, Karrin had been kind of having a crisis of faith since she was 11.]
Guess I'll just have to do some research the hard way, I don't have much to go on though. Hera was vague as hell.
no subject
[Her mother had believed in a seven-faced god before this, and for many years, she had rejected that faith in favor of one that rejoiced in her lord father Hephaestus. Now that there were aspects of gods and new pantheons being introduced to her, she wasn't sure what to believe in but herself anymore.]
I have heard the gods tend to be that way.
no subject
[She'll have to take that under consideration, but it does seem to make her a little reassured. Well, except for that last bit.]
Great.
no subject
[Her father, for instance - the father who had 'blessed' her with the ability to set things on fire, but had never even visited her once.]
Some gods do not prefer the company of beings such as we at all.
no subject
[She's liking this less and less.]
Guess we have each other at least.
no subject
[Actually, what Karrin says rings truer than any explanation for it that Dany's ever tried to come up with, as much as she doesn't like to admit it.]
Pardon me, I've not introduced myself. My name is Daenerys Targaryen, of Cabin 9.
no subject
[Karrin seems to scan the area around her.]
Oh the one with the smokestacks?
no subject
[She laughs a little bit, remembering how long many Hephaestus children can go without sleeping.]
They say that most of my siblings' work is never done. My brother Leo stays up for hours on end tinkering...I prefer to attempt to get beauty sleep.
[Except for the nights when she's kept awake for so long by hungry dragons.]

[She shrugs, then digs in her bag and pulls out two plastic nubs, laughing a little. They're earplugs.]
These help, as well.
no subject
I can see where that would help, yeah.
no subject
[ There's no way he heard that right. This is a camp for demigods. First Greeks and Romans, then Egyptians, now this? What's next, Chinese gods?! He'll never be able to keep track of them all at this rate. ]
no subject
[She partly hates this because she's starting to get the feeling that this is going to make her even STRANGER than what she had previously believed. Was NO one else here like her? That was...annoying.]
no subject
[ Give him a second; he needs to process this. ]
Awesome!
no subject
Come again?
no subject
[ How cool is that?! ]
Does that mean you're immortal? Do you get some special godly powers? [ His expression suddenly turns suspicious. ] You're not going to turn us into animals, are you?
no subject
[Still not 100% on this whole 'you are a reborn goddess' thing. She doesn't FEEL all that godly. Probably something to do with not having all of her "pieces" or whatever Hera had called them.]
No idea, but considering I was given this power from a goddess that died I somehow doubt it. And even if that wasn't the case, I'm not stupid enough to go experimenting with that kind of thing.
[Now she's just plain confused.]
Why would I do that? I just got here. I don't think my "powers" or whatever cover shape shifting. In fact, I'm pretty sure Hera said something about the powers of the Norse gods being dispersed or something so I don't even have all the godly stuff going for me.
no subject
Good. Being a salamander was one life experience I could've lived without.
Probably a good idea not to test immortality, but good luck on that one. Nearly dying is like a rite of passage around here. Me, I fell off the Grand Canyon. Thrown, actually. For the record, don't ever tangle with wind spirits while standing on a cliff.
[ He doesn't even seem to notice that he might be confusing her or anything; he just keeps plowing forward. ]
So what are you not-all-the-goddess of?
no subject
Well...at least you got better. Although, shame it wasn't a newt. That would have made for a great unintentional Monty Python sketch right about now.
[She shrugs.]
I fought a troll before coming here...does that count? I'll keep it in mind about the wind spirits though.
I wasn't told much and I've never had to learn much Norse mythology...but Brynhildr was basically the leader of the Valkyries and I guess a kind of goddess of battles.
no subject
If you want combat training, I can probably be of service.
no subject
I have some experience...but somehow I've gotten the sense you guys are trained in more than just fighting your average thug. Thanks.
no subject
Let me know when you want to get started.
no subject
What was your name?
no subject
[She pauses, as if she were actually debating giving her name. Which would not be untrue, she's been here for a few months now but she still hesitates when it comes to personal information] Natasha. You?
no subject
Karrin.
no subject
no subject
[She has to remind herself that it's never easy being the new girl, doubly so when you're apparently the only Norse kid around.]
no subject
no subject
Apparently in another life I was Brynhildr, goddess and leader of the Valkyries. Ragnarok happened at some point though and so their powers were dispersed to mortals, with some mortals destined to become them...or something. Don't ask me about that though, I'm not sure how the end of the world can occur without really doing much except re-configuring a few gods.

It was...surprising still. I know I'm past denial at this point, but I'm not sure it's fully sunken in yet what Hera told me. Or what I saw before that.
