[Hello, Camp Half-Blood. Elsa looks curious as she sits atop Cabin One. By the way, it's really weird being the only girl up here. Just sayin'.]

Hello, everyone. I have a question.

[She fidgets slightly.]

I've heard of the Hunters of Artemis. Mostly, I just know that it's only for girls and that they're the only ones who can live in Cabin Eight. I was wondering, what else is there to being a Hunter?

[Elsa hesitates for a moment.]

Also...is there a Roman equivalent to the Hunters?

Hey there- Elsa, right?

[She waves]

I'm Elizabeth, resident Hunter of Artemis. We take all manner of women, doesn't matter your pantheon or anything. You don't even have to be a demigod.

What we do is we travel the world, keeping women and maidens safe, and generally fighting the good fight. We help demigods and mortals alike, and work as Artemis' handmaidens. Seriously, we kinda... do everything.

We can also talk to animals, which is really cool.

[She smiles.]

Yes, I'm Elsa.

[Traveling the world helping people in need...hm.]

And...you travel in a group? What does it take to be a Hunter?

That we do. But sometimes, we take off on our own for special missions. That's why I'm here right now.

[She's more than happy to try to keep camp safe. And make friends.]

All that it takes is the will to do it. The readiness to answer a call, really. That's what it is; a calling. It's hard work, but worth it, I find. There is nothing else I'd rather be doing. You also swear eternal maidenhood which is a turn-off for some girls, but I never thought of it that way.

[Wow. Seriously, Elizabeth, you might just get a convert.]

You do look as though you enjoy what you do. By eternal maidenhood, I'm assuming no romantic love?

Yes. That isn't to say we don't think it's important [Some girls did.] but it's something we do without. And it's not hard, either. But platonic love? That's got no rules.

[That...doesn't sound so bad, to be honest. And it's nice that loving her little sister won't mean she can't join.]

I think...that's something I would be interested in doing, but I don't know. If I joined the Hunters, would it be taken amiss if I visit my family at times?

We're a no pressure organization. So don't feel required or anything.

Oh, gosh! No way. When I first joined, I spent a lot of time visiting my friend.

[Elsa hesitates for a moment, and then decides to go ahead with it.]

I...also heard that the Hunters are immortal.

[She looks a little uncomfortable.]

Um...oh, I don't really know how to ask without being rude or opening old wounds.

Elsa, one of the reasons I'm here is to answer questions about the Hunters. There are a lot of misconceptions. Thalia had me come here, above all the others. When it comes to me: just ask.

[On that note.]

We are. But there are stipulations. We can die in battle, or if we do fall in love, chances are we'll get turned into a tree or an animal. I'm starting to think we were in the inspiration for Tolkien's elves. But immortality is a lot to handle; I was born in 1893. I've watched empires rise and fall, seen the birth of so many amazing things. But I won't lie and tell you that it isn't hard.

Now, what was the question?

[Elsa is really starting to appreciate Elizabeth. She hesitates once more before steeling her courage.]

My friends and family who won't be part of the Hunters...is it worth being one if it means watching them die while you remain young?

It's not about staying young, Elsa. We do get older. We mature. Our bodies just remain the way they are now. If you're doing it to stay young, you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

But I'm going to answer your question with another one: is it worth saving the lives of thousands of people, demigods, girls to you? Or watching your family's family grow, and protecting them, even when your loved ones are no longer there? There are families that I always try to find a way to stop in and say hello to. To make sure they're getting along okay, playing the role of fairy godmother.

But I can tell you it was worth it for me. I don't regret my decision, not even close. But I can't tell you if it's worth it for you. Only you can decide that.

[She listens and she considers. Elsa isn't even sure when this actually became an option she seriously considered, or even one that she really wants. She's quiet before she speaks again.]

I think that I should talk to my sister about this first. And most likely Jehan and Eiji. Making a decision like this doesn't just impact me, but them, too.

[Maybe not so much with Eiji, since he's a Norse god, but...somewhere along the way, he's become a brother to her.]

Of course. I'm not going to rise you. Or put any pressure on you. I'd talk with Sojourner and Annabeth, too. They've both given the idea some thought. And I'm always here for questions.
