first diamond ◆ action
[Random kids dropped in nearly everyday lately, and Hazel was no different. Well, maybe the way she took in her surroundings was. She'd been spending the time since New Rome fell traveling across country, but she'd also been awestruck by too many things. Once before when she'd returned she'd seen the modern U.S and had immediately went back to New Rome because it'd seemed more real to her then anything out there. And that's sort of why she had a bit more difficulty then other Romans to make her way across county.]
[She found it easy to tell which one was Pluto's--Hades'-- cabin. It was kind of obvious from standing at the Big House, really. No one else would want to deal that closely with death (well maybe Thantos kids but did Thantos have kids?). It looks almost like a summer camp except for the buildings that so obviously screamed demigod. But it was weird and foreign, too. Nothing like New Rome. Where was all the non-teenagers, after all?]
[So entering camp is one (1) thirteen-year-old daughter of Pluto looking more than a little beat up- -monster attacks, never a pretty thing. The sword at her side, distinctly not a gladius like most other Roman Soldiers, gripped firmly in hands. She was tiny, at least, in that she looked no more than thirteen, but well she might seem a little old, too. Just a bit. And curious, as she takes in the Greek camp with wide eyes and a slow, careful work as she made her way down to the cabin that felt like it called to her.]
[If she comes across anyone she'll stop with a polite "Excuse me?" and look like she wants to ask something, but she won't bother anyone for too long if they don't want to be, at least.]

You must be new.

[All she can do is breathe out in a whispered word that isn't even audible as she just... stares for a good moment. It's not possible. It can't be but he looks exactly like him, down to that grin.]
I--Yes. [She actually fumbles for trying to be normal because it's not possible, it's not, but] Am I really obvious?
no subject
Most of us don't go around with that wide-eyed look every day, like we just stepped through a time warp.
[ Most of them. He knows a few who do. ]
no subject
[Maybe she was.]
I... I suppose I hadn't been used to Camp Jupiter yet. [She's still sort of new to this whole camp thing, let alone this time. So that's a good enough excuse.] If it's normal to just arrive in ancient Greek camps then I'm really missing something. [It's an attempted joke, at least, though her voice is still kind of tight and she can't quite look away from him.]

[ Staring is still happening, and he's pretty sure he didn't just become a unicorn, so... He looks up. ]
Is Caelum nesting in my hair again?
no subject
No, I don't think so. Who is Caelum? [It didn't sound like a monster and a person wouldn't be nesting in his hair (or she hoped, but you never knew).]
no subject
[ An annoying little automaton bird, to be exact. Gods know where that thing goes now that it's escaped the cabin. ]
Anyway, I'm Leo. Son of Hephaestus, counselor for Cabin Nine.
no subject
[That's kind of weird, Leo. But she kind of takes that in-- Leo-- not Sammy. But they look exactly the same. ]
I'm Hazel. Daughter of Pluto and in the Fifth Cohort. [A beat and she points.] I'm not going crazy to say that's Hades cabin?
no subject
[ It would probably help if Leo's hair wasn't such a mess, but there's not much point in trying to control these curls. ]
The one with the giant skull? Come on, that's obviously where the pirates hang out.
[ Everyone knows that. ]
no subject
[Sort of a question. She kind of wants to see that. But no she can't see why it's a big deal for him.]
Thantos is Greek. I think he's capable of having kids. [If he wasn't on border patrol.]
no subject
[ Caelum did always like the ladies - not that Leo can blame him. Girls - some girls - are pretty awesome. ]
Thanatos?
[ His nose scrunches up a little in thought. The name sounds familiar, but he can't place it. ]
...Wouldn't know. He the god of piracy? 'Cause I thought that'd be Hermes.
no subject
[It's said as a joke, at least, but she shakes her head skeptically.]
No, he's Pluto's Lieutenant. The actual God of Death.
